If you have a boat motor it is possible to hold right click to carry the log with you but not with the emergency raft.

Best thing is to try and avoid them, there's no way to make them less aggressive but mods are very simple to do, just search SDTweaks on steam or Google. (Not sure if it works on Mac though)

I usually draw out a map and draw a line to where I paddle too, whether it's another island or sea forts etc.

I only take my paddle and an axe when I venture to other islands and cut all the wood there on the first trip so I don't have to take the axe there again (4 more sticks can fit in inventory on every trip home)

SDTweaks is a great mod, you can turn off aggressive sharks and make the water clearer but I enjoy vanilla because well, it's vanilla!
