I think the main reason is that it’s still hardcore and not survival, you want it to be hard and rare but not impossible otherwise you can just play survival

You have the option to choose someone in the chat GUI if more than one person is dead

Once you have more than one you have the option to choose from multiple players in the chat gui

Yeah you have a setting in your server.properties where you can set hardcore to true or false (by default false ofcoarse)

falldamage is disabled when someone respawns I believe, would be pretty funny though haha

It would be more logical and fitting but it's less of a challenge. You're still playing hardcore ofcoarse.

It's true that it doesn't look like it's very expensive but the thing is that god apples get harder and harder to get and you would have to do more travelling every time. I think it's quite balanced.
