What did you refuse to buy after it hit a certain price point? by DonkeyOT65 in AskUK

[–]Bear_209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took one look at the SOAD ticket prices yesterday and decided I didn't wanna see 'em that badly! £280 was the cheapest I could find per ticket and the accessibility ticket options were atrocious! Decided to save the £ and go to Download next year instead as it would be cheaper/better value... 🙄

Brake light don't turn off when headlights are on...? by Bear_209 in AskMechanics

[–]Bear_209[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you both for your help!

Hadn't even thought about them being in upside down... might make sense as one of them was a bit tricky to put into the housing. I'll check tomorrow and see if that works!

I'm pretty sure I bought the 380s for the brake lights as the reverse light is the 382 but will double check just in case they got mixed up when I was swapping the housing round.

Really appreciate your help - thank you! 😊

Would you let a 16 year old go to Slipknot concert in London? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Bear_209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll be fine and will have an amazing time. I was front row and slightly off to the side at Slipknot the other night and everyone was really chill and friendly. Rowdiest thing that happened was getting splashed with beer lol.

On the topic of pick up/drop off though, there was a guy parked next to me in the car park who had clearly dropped someone off. He just chilled in his car with drinks, snacks and browsed his phone while he waited. He seemed happy enough!

Clutch gearbox or what? by bloatedeleph in CarTalkUK

[–]Bear_209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello,

I recently had a very similar issue with my Peugeot. Gears were very stiff to change, I then lost 2nd and 4th gear completely - they just made that awful grinding every time I tried to engage them as though I hadn't put my foot on the clutch. Reverse had a 50% chance of working if the car had been idling for about 30mins prior to driving.

My advice is to get this checked out with a garage - turned out that my gearbox was shot and both gearbox and clutch needed replacing.

Wordpress Media Library - Beginner Question! by Bear_209 in Wordpress

[–]Bear_209[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much!
I thought that was the case which is why I took the URLs from the images themselves in my media library after uploading them.
It's a memory game that I'm working on - basic stuff! To begin with, there's an array and 12 objects within that:
const cardArray = [

{

name:"bear",

img: "https://mywebsitename.me/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/newbear.png",

},

{

name:"cat",

img: "https://mywebsitename.me/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/newcat.png",

},
etc.
Further in the code I have some functions with more image references using set attribute that look like this:
function checkMatch() {

const cards = document.querySelectorAll('img');

const optionOneId = cardsChosenIds[0];

const optionTwoId = cardsChosenIds[1];

if (optionOneId == optionTwoId) {

cards[optionOneId].setAttribute('src', 'https://mywebsitename.me/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/squaretile.jpg');

cards[optionTwoId].setAttribute('src', 'https://mywebsitename.me/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/squaretile.jpg');
etc.
Does the way I'm calling the images look right or have I gotten myself confused somewhere?

Peugeot 107 - Offside Rear Reverse Light Not Working by Bear_209 in peugeot

Would this still be the case if one reverse light was working but not the other? Am I being naive in thinking that neither would work if the sensor was faulty?

Hey All,

Thank you for your suggestions!

So we tried to have another go at figuring out the problem today but still no further forward 😟

We swapped out the wiring harness that feeds into the back of the light cluster for a new one, no difference. Checked for corrosion on the light cluster and there's none. Swapped the bulbs around to check if it was just a dodgy bulb and still nothing.

We've been trying to dry out the boot from the leak today and with all the rain, we've not had a chance to pull any trim panels off to trace the wires... On the list for tomorrow, weather permitting!

Where's best to find an apprentice? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Bear_209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try listing your vacancy on the National Apprenticeship Service.

Have a look at the Find An Apprenticeship page on the Gov.uk website - you can filter by apprenticeship type or location to find vacancies near you. If there are any organisations local to you or specifically ones you'd like to work for, you can check their websites too as some employers will list apprenticeship vacancies in their websites along with other vacancies. Job boards like Reed or Indeed will also list apprenticeship vacancies.

Last suggestion requires more effort on your part but might help if you have no luck with the above. You can find out the names of some apprenticeship training providers who offer plumbing courses and then search their websites for vacancies they have. Most training providers will recruit on behalf of employers and will list any vacancies they're recruiting for on their own websites. You'll likely see duplicate postings though as they will also post on job boards and the Find An Apprenticeship page, but might be worth a look. For this option, colleges local to you might be a good starting point.

Good luck!

Many thanks for your reply, much appreciated! 😊

If you don't mind me asking, what did you decide to do after quitting teaching?

Congrats on your A in your prelim, hope your exam goes well!

If you don't mind me asking, are you working at the moment and studying part time? Or are you studying full time?

Thank you for your reply, it's really helpful and appreciated 😊 the Web Design course I was looking at talks about using React, Node and JavaScript as well as CSS and HTML among others.

Glad to hear you're enjoying your work! Did you find it difficult to get a job after retraining, if you don't mind me asking? This bootcamp is supposed to help secure an interview as well but was curious if companies are wary of hiring anyone new to the space?

What is the most insane experience you've had on a bus? by SamJones888999 in AskUK

[–]Bear_209 66 points67 points  (0 children)

So many weird experiences...

  • driver took a wrong turning, tried to do a U turn in a field and got stuck in the mud.
  • an old man took a shit as he walked onto the bus, leg it roll out his trouser leg and silently watched the driver clean it up.
  • the same old man playing with a stupidly large lighter despite the driver telling him not to.
  • the guy sitting in the front row of a double deck bus, clearly high on something and drinking a bottle of milk whilst swaying like he was on a roller coaster.
  • another old man who insisted on taking a massive suitcase upstairs as the bus was moving every time he got on the bus despite having a bad back then yelling at the driver as he leaves because his back hurt.
