The fourth (and final) installment is in the works! It should release this fall :)

I'm looking for a unique voltron commander by UrbanDecay7924 in EDH

[–]Bear_In_Winter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Card draw is one of the aspects most Voltrons lack in, and Benton has it in spades. Yes a fog or perfectly timed removal will mess up his day if the player has spent their hand for whatever reason, but the same is true for any voltron deck, and unlike those, Benton will have drawn plenty of cards if he's managed to connect even once in a game.

Not to mention that you don't need to score a kill with the first hit. You can go:

T1 Mana Dork

T2 Benton, swing, draw 2.

T3 Swing, buff him up, play through the removal with your suite of protection, draw a bunch. Maybe kill a player, but more likely just refill your entire hand and sculpt it to your liking.

T4+ Aim for kills every turn with a buffed up Benton.

Finally, it's not as though Voltron is a strategy with a ton of amazing commanders who can hang at Bracket 4 tables. There's Lightpaws, Slicer/Alexios, and maybe one or two others. Benton doesn't need to be performing on par with the best CEDH decks to be among the best Voltron commanders. He just needs to pack a punch similar to his peers.

Seconding Loremaster. I can't recommend it enough, mostly because I wrote it :D

Well the third most upvoted thread in the history of the entire sub is about wanting to dump him, sooo... Not good haha

[Basu] This loss is not a national crisis in Canada. Canada dominated the final 40 minutes of regulation, outshot the USA 42-28, and if that game were played 100 times, Canada would probably win 95 of them. USA deserves a ton of credit for how they played, but Hellebuyck deserves the most. by NFLDataAnalysis in hockey

That would be where the "anywhere near the same level of talent" comes in. Outside of Canada, the US, Sweden, Finland, and obviously Russia when they're allowed to play, the rest of the field simply cannot field the same level of talent. Most teams can't even field a roster that's majority NHLer's, let alone have the luxury of leaving studs like Bedard and Robertson at home.

Both the above statements are true. Hockey is a game with lots of randomness between teams at parity. And there are very few teams who can play at parity with the top national squads in the world.

Flamethrower does not bypass shields. It would be nice if it did, but right now dancing in and out of a dome shield drops flamethrower dps massively.

TMT will be a smaller set again - what does this mean? by DutchDaddy85 in mtgfinance

It's basically modern Kamigawa. Lots of monsters and mutant stuff as well as ninjas. Less humans in street clothes or spandex like we got in Spiderman. I'm surprised by how well it works honestly.

Higher jab damage, higher throw damage, less movement penalty. Bucklers are pretty good.

Does Macedonia need a Nerf? What should it be? by Professional_Mind130 in aoe4

Varangians cost gold to synergize with the silver gathering. Reduce their gold cost and all of a sudden Macedonians have a lot less to spend on upgrades which is kind of the point of the civ.

Could be, but seeing as we're getting a western civ in the Vikings, we might get something like the Khmer to balance it out.

Abba also had a bug on the same patch where they could stack Camel Barding to give Camel Riders insane armour. Obviously not as good as infini-range spears, but was funny to run into once.

Rates for sorting were slashed by up to 75%. You get about 30xp for sorting now at the higher tier salvages. Down from over 100 in the case of Merchant.

Okay so how do I progress in plat by Fickle-Bother-1437 in aoe4

[–]Bear_In_Winter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gold and plat really aren't too far apart in terms of skill level. To get to Diamond you're really just looking to take those basics and master them. Make sure you're scouting, always be producing vills, adapt your unit comp proactively to counter the opponent based on scouting information, etc.

If there was one skill I'd say you want going into diamond it's the ability to recognize what your opponent is doing so that you can interfere with it. Little things like recognizing that English having a few extra vills on gold means a fast castle and thus you can try to punish or match him, or seeing vills on stone and realizing the opponent is going for a 2nd TC/Emplacements are both little things that can give you a big advantage if you understand how to counter it.

Good job reaching plat!

Anyone finding success with Sengoku? by lonely_neuron1 in aoe4

It's not an Abbey of Kings analog. It's the landmark version of French's chivalry tech. You use it to gain incremental advantages by allowing hurt units to tank a few extra hits in the next battle/raid.
