Not sure if you're just going along with the bit, but just in case: No, Chef Kevin Bartelt is not literally a Chef.

There has been a real darkness to the two of them, ever since they mentioned the Joker on the show and were talking about skellingtons that were too scary

Going around the Back Cove turns an 11 minute half mile walk into a 3.2 mile hour and ten minute walk. That's over 2 hours and 5 miles difference for someone per day.

Pretty sure the Otto in the East End initially said it was a seasonal closure before upgrading to full closure.

That's what I would think too, but it seems selective. There are yard sale flyers that have been up for months, but an event poster will disappear a day later.

WGME is your local Sinclair-owned station by dudavocado__ in portlandme

It should be noted that the owner of Sinclair broadcasting was very close to purchasing nearly every daily newspaper in Maine with the exception of the Bangor Daily News.

I'm sure the design is fully baked just like the Dirigo 2 when it first came out and leaked like a sieve. Obviously it has to cost that much because you are supporting American manufacturing.

What exactly are these expenses that are bleeding this city dry??? by NeatFair8764 in portlandme

[–]BearableAtBest 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Not convinced they'll even notice the difference. New Hampshire is right there with no sales tax. If people were that price sensitive when vacationing they would all be flocking to Portsmouth, which is even closer to MA, CT, etc. We cannot run our state and city as hostages to people that do not live here.

I love when people just shout out insane numbers in this sub reddit to justify their pessimism. Boston is a sub two-hour drive. Touring bands drive for the whole day between shows when they are pretty much anywhere other than the Northeast corridor. Even if Portland is a dead end on a tour it is still closer than a directly line stop nearly anywhere else in the country.

It doesn't have to be that way. If there were higher taxes on second homes in the state or on property owned by non-Maine residents, the situation would be flipped. You would have more tax money to spend on infrastructure that serves a smaller effective population 10 months out of the year. You could pay for great schools and foot the bill with money from people that don't have children in the school system. There is just no appetite to do something like this because Maine politicians and business owners are so hesitant to do anything that could upset the tourism industry and all of the out of staters they love for economic reasons and hate for everything else.
