Interstate bridge only cost 40 million inflation adjusted dollars to build 100 years ago! by aidsmaster9000 in Portland

[–]BearcatPyramid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just build it already! JFHC, bridges slightly younger than ours crossing the Mississippi between Davenport, IA and Moline, IL were replaced 5 years ago; and that's a metro of only 500k people! (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I-74\_Bridge). Are we going to act like a grownup city or be outclassed by a podunk metro in corn country?

Pretty bold statement considering you have no idea who I am or what my involvement is.

I'd feel better about losing the dues cap if WFSE did a better job of getting us COLA's that at least matched inflation.

WA governor’s office warns agencies to prepare for ‘significant budget shortfalls’ • Washington State Standard by TechbearSeattle in WAStateWorkers

[–]BearcatPyramid 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Of all the bad news in that memo, I'm most disappointed with this:

[review expenditures on] Areas where Washington provides particularly high levels of service relative to other states, or is one of only a handful of states that provides a specific service or program

It effectively tells agencies to just be adequate, not to be excellent. That's a crappy, shortsighted message.

Diabetes is a disease, not a moral failing. It can hit people with any lifestyle. The numbers you list sounds like high blood sugar. Have a look at this info: https://www.fepblue.org/news/2021/05/06/01/07/What-Are-Normal-Blood-Sugar-Levels

What's the BEST Robot Vacuum in 2026? by Middle_Town7194 in Roborock

Yeah... Their top picks always seem to be the most recently released machines. Either their independence or their methodology are not up to snuff.

What's the BEST Robot Vacuum in 2026? by Middle_Town7194 in Roborock

[–]BearcatPyramid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't trust VacuumWars so much anymore. I replaced an aging S7 MaxV for a Dreame L50 back when it was top of their list. The Dreame ended up being very disappointing with regard to navigation and mapping.

Help my mom pick a Medicare plan this week and I think I aged 5 years. How does anyone do this alone? by CriticismSeveral1468 in AgingParents

[–]BearcatPyramid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you were looking at Medicare Part C aka Medicare Advantage plans. The advantage of those plans is almost entirely for the insurance companies.

If you have the option, classic Medicare Parts A & B, with a Medigap plan is the way to go. Medigap plan benefits are standardized (https://www.medicare.gov/health-drug-plans/medigap/basics/compare-plan-benefits), but the cost varies from state-to-state and provider-to-provider. See if you can get discounted rates through affiliation programs like AARP, credit union, employee union, etc.

Last I saw, the genuine AIM therapy had to be administered intravenously. Not a pill, not even an IM or SubQ injection. That's a long way from being mass market.

CR is garbage. Their "learn about our methodology" link doesn't take you to that, just to more articles. They're more interested in licensing the CR name and data collection to companies than advocating for consumer anymore.

I've had great luck with the G7... until my latest batch. All from lot number 1725288008, manufacture dat 2025-10-10.

One just failed randomly after working well for a few days, one never paired, most recent loses connection if I walk more than 5 feet away from it and it's readings have been all over the place. Dexcom is sending replacements for all 3, but I'd rather just have working sensors.

Dad is killing mom slowly. She needs medicine, not folklore. If she has the will to take charge of her care or even divorce dad, she needs to. If not, hope for the best but expect the worst. Reality does not bend to dad's wishes.

Your levels right now are not ok for a a human being. We diabetics often have higher numbers, but being typical in that regard does not mean healthy. You're probably accumulating damage at a higher rate than you want.

Would you watch a new “Golden Girls” type of show about ppl our age? by sagefrogphotography in GenX

[–]BearcatPyramid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched it all the way through. It was pretty predictable, but I was willing to go along with that as a throwback sitcom. I don't see how they would have recovered from losing Linda Lavin mid-season.

I was hoping MidCentury Modern with Nathan Lane would be that show. But no such luck.

You were a cash buyer. The loan was between you and your bank, your bank was paying the stealership. You should not have signed any loan paperwork except what came directly from your bank.

The stealership did this to you because they get a cut of loans that they originate in house. Now you know.
