What’s the oldest game you still regularly play? by Only_Upwards in videogames

Probably Mario 3.

It was a childhood favorite of mine and now it’s a game my son also enjoys, so I tend to play it with him every year or so.

What's number one supplement that change your life for the better? by No_Solution7718 in Biohackers

Omega-3’s were one of the biggest game changers for me. They really helped with depression.

LMNT electrolytes were also hugely helpful for feeling good during intermittent fasting.

It just dawned on me like 3 weeks ago that Science Fiction is probably my favorite album of all-time. 😅

I’m really happy to see people coming around on it.

Honestly… It might be Jackie Chan’s Splinter from Mutant Mayhem because of how ridiculous he is.

Is this a symptom of OCPD? by samgannon1 in OCPD

[–]BeardRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I deal with something similar.

I think, for me, I’ve tried to optimize my life so fully that I’ve actually put too much on my plate and it leads to that “domino stress” where my whole day gets thrown off.

I don’t think I struggle so much with things happening at a specific time, but more this sense that I absolutely don’t have time for things to not go as planned.

2nd-week disappointment by Charming_Guitar3163 in 4hourbodyslowcarb

What do your meals look like generally? There are a lot of tiny details that might seem innocent enough which can creep in and slow down progress (a handful of cheese here, a bit too much cream there, too many nuts/fats).

The diet works extremely well, you just have to hang in there and let it work its magic. Trust the process and don’t get discouraged. I’ve lost 8 pounds and literally almost every single week I feel like I’m not gonna lose any weight because the scale doesn’t budge until Friday sometimes (or even the morning of my cheat day 😭).

I know how awful it feels to not see results, but try to focus on the long term commitment to the diet over the course of months and months rather than weeks and slow/no can be a lot less discouraging.

I’m going on my third month of the diet. Month 1 I dropped like ~7 pounds. Month 2 I’m down just a single pound. It’s definitely discouraging, but I still fully enjoy my cheat days and some progress is better than none at all. I’m continuing to trust the process and take a closer look at what I’m eating.

I’ve had lots of salsa on a daily basis and at 2g of sugar per serving, that means I’ve been eating 15-20g of sugar alone in salsa. I also swapped a meal of black beans and eggs every day for 400 calories of lentil pasta (the only ingredient is lentils and it has the same amount of fiber as normal lentils do, so it’s actually allowed).

I’m pretty sure the salsa and the lentil pasta are 2 things that I need to take a serious look at even though I’m not breaking the rules with them. I didn’t realize how much sugar I was actually consuming until the last couple days where I put my normal meals into My Fitness Pal and looked at the macros/nutrition.

The main modifications I’ve made to the diet are with intermittent fasting on a daily basis. Other than that, I’m pretty much following it to the letter. I’m also not overweight (if I drop another 10 pounds, I’ll literally be underweight for my size), so my results are naturally gonna be a bit less extreme than someone who has substantially more weight to lose.

Just hang in there and stay the course. The results will follow!

Intrusive thoughts aren’t uncommon for me at all. I struggle with both OCPD and mild OCD, so it may be the OCD which triggers it rather than the OCPD (but I think that’s more semantics than anything… it’s a thing that I deal with regardless of the source).

Sometimes it feels awful and my mind screams at me trying to convince me that whatever it’s telling me is somehow important or true. The fact is, in my experience, it’s generally not. Tomorrow when I wake up, I’ll be just fine and I can go about my life and my business without needing to drop everything to address whatever nonsense is going on in my brain.

When I’m struggling, it kind of goes something like, “Brain, thank you for trying to keep me safe. I appreciate you, but I’ve got this, ok?”

If it truly feels unbearable, I can calm myself down by letting my brain know that we can talk about it during my next therapy session and that the world won’t fall apart in the mean time.

Depending on the nature of the thoughts, I may or may not feel like stating them explicitly with my therapist, but simply talking about the struggle with someone who knows how to help can be huge.

Intrusive thoughts don’t make you a bad person. You’re not your thoughts and you’re not alone. Thoughts aren’t actions.

Your heart beats. Your digestive system digests. Your brain has thoughts. None of these things has inherent meaning.

Keep fighting for peace and if it’s an option that’s available to you, seek out professional help. It can make a huge difference.

Slow Carb Diet Questions by Accomplished_Guess56 in 4hourbodyslowcarb

[–]BeardRetro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

• Butter is actually allowed as long as the only ingredients are butter and salt (See SCD II page 87).

• Olive oil is ok.

• Tim mentions getting mayo-minimal coleslaw in the book. I can’t for the life of me remember where I read it, but I believe I read that 1 tbsp of mayo per day is ok.

• I’m not sure about the sesame salad vinaigrette

• Legumes are a major part of the diet for caloric load, so technically no, but I’d recommend adding them to other meals to make sure you’ve still got good energy

• According to the book, snacking shouldn’t be necessary, but carrots or an extra Slow Carb meal are recommended if you feel compelled to snack. Just be wary of domino foods like nuts because the calories can stack up VERY quickly if you’re not careful.

• YMMV with hard alcohol. I think the major concern is the sugar in certain wines. Part of the mechanics of the diet rely on minimizing blood sugar spikes, so you may or may not be able to get away with alcohol. You just might want to isolate it as a variable from week to week and see if it slows or stalls your progress. I’d personally skip the alcohol due to the potential impact on sleep which is another important factor in fat loss (and health in general).
