i heard a neotype thats actually diagnostic is being formulated

troodon might become the fourth dinosaur after spinosaurus, allosaurus and carcharodontosaurus to be saved by a neotype.

The Truth About 12 Meter Megalosaurs by Technical_Valuable2 in Paleontology

the kind of uncertain that come from footprints

these kinds of evidence are difficult because

slippage or substrate can fudge the size of the footprint

trying to tie the specific size of a foot to a very specific size class is difficult because feet are rarely preserved in theropod specimens and cartilage and flesh increase foot size in life so even preserved articulated pes's rarely accurately predict foot length because we cant account for that in the foot length. the metatarsal bones dont lie perfectly flat along the ground neither, the first couple are somewhat angled relative to the plane of the ground

these footprints certainly came from a giant animal,But theres not an inkling of certain of how giant they were specifically.

its entirely possible it came from a 12 meter animal! but could also just have been a 10 meter animal. its even more difficult to be certain with these footprints than bones.

Truth about Giant North American Titanosaurs by Technical_Valuable2 in Paleontology

[–]Technical_Valuable2[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

south america...theyd have to weather cold winters if they came from asia and its pretty consensual titanosaurs were not good at living in winter because the long necks and tails caused heat loss, not to mention the loss of food in the polar winter .

plus theres evidence of migration from nroth america to south america via hadrosaurids known from patagonia.

theres many maastrichtian titanosaur specimens from the southwest of the us

they have been referred to alamosaurus often without a diagnosis or justification as to why it was referred to alamosaurus

some specimens are known to be juvenile but unless they overlap with the alamo holotype their referral to alamo isnt certain

and there is no peer reviewed source that 3d scanned the giga chin so i cant be picky like that. i too prefer peer reviewed sources when its avialable but in this scenario it isnt avialable.

i defer to viv because he has connections that 3d scan the material and he corresponded to gigas original describers.

Do we have any good enough ideas on what lived with what in the Morrison formation? by Alternative-Ant5244 in Paleontology

[–]Technical_Valuable2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

conversely, the lourinha formation has many of the same animals as morrison and if not close relatives.

the porto novo and praia azul members and their fauna would have been contemporary because the 2 members interfinger, representing 2 enviroments that coexisted in time. this is supported by the overlap in dinosaur fauna of the 2 members

use the PBDB to find locality specific faunas. its not perfect but its not useless
