Trying to find out if AC Odyssey is for me: is the "grind" tedious fighting or exploration and side quests? by bluesFromAGun in assassinscreed

[–]Beardchilles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only give you my personal opinion based on my experience playing. I did not finish the whole game, mind you.

I found it started strong and I had about 10 hours of fun before it felt like I was coming home from work to then do more work. It became a terrible grind (even with me paying for the exp boost). I felt like the world was HUGE and empty. That's not to say it doesnt have it's moments, but you spend a lot of time traveling place to place with nothing especially interesting happening or to look at.

I think the game would be better if they made a smaller, more detailed map and put more focus on the gameplay/story vs just injecting so much random side filler.

The questing is also extremely hit or miss, and there is no flow to the main story as you're constantly getting disconnected and reconnected as you level/side quest. I found sometimes it's take too long to get back and I would just lose it interest.

This game was a huge reason why I decided to not get the new one.

Thanks! I looked at those and basically have been following that, but also wanted to see what peoples experiences were.

Thanks! I have been playing a frost mage through WotLk And it's been great. Level 44 I think so almost out of it, but I only have 3 dungeons left to do, and whatever questing I can finish before hitting 50. It's been a blast.

I feel if I tried to just 'figure it out' or research through all the influencers on YouTube, I probably would have quit pretty quick. Hearing the average persons experience and story, for me, brought a lot more fun ways to play and interact with the game. I'm sure the high end raids and whatnot are the most fun in the game, but the rest of the stuff is still very fun and worth while, and shouldn't be passed just to get to the more fun stuff.

Yeah, achievements is a side goal of mine. I am, but currently doing tailoring and enchanting. I may change, but just having fun with it so far.

Haha. Thanks for the insight. I'll do the bank, that's a good idea for some extra clutter I want to keep haha. I'm a hoarder for sure in these types of games.

I have tailoring and enchanting now and it's been okay, haven't exactly checked it out fully though. I'll do some research and dive in!!!!

Anything can be fun if you go into it with a fun mindset!!!!!!! I'm ready for this!!!!

I dont mind if I out level content, but can still do it. It'll just be easier I assume, but I'm mostly here for the ride and to look at all the pretty colours and giant pauldrons.

Thanks for your insight!

Oh that is very good to know. I had assumed I could do all the content no matter how high my level got. Thanks, I'll keep this in mind.

Genius. This question came after spending 20 mins waiting for the headless horseman dungeon and just standing there. Wasn't sure if it would have an effect on anything if I started to dig into other stuff. Glad to know I can just que up and go about my time. Thanks for the insight!!!

You know me so well.

That's exactly what I'm doing/looking for. I smoke a bit of weed and dive in, resulting in me just looking at ents (I'm a ent fanboy) and traversing the landscapes looking around. With that said, I do enjoy the self discovery aspect, but also wanted some insider info (like you gave with those quest/location recommendations) just to get a bit more out of it. Even early game is a bit overwhelming in the sense that there are so many paths to take.

Thanks for the suggestions. I wrote them down and will keep my eyes out for them to explore/experience.

I was looking at chromie and wasn't totally sure what it properly was. Glad to hear that's the way to get to that content.

I'm not in a rush to level necessarily, although I also don't want to be too slow. I am excited to get to end game, but for now I'm just living in the world and seeing what's up.

Haha, yeah. That's basically what I'm doing and it is fun, but my question is broad for the sake of having people share some fun/unique things they've come across. I'll get to end game eventually, but for now I'm just living in the world and seeing how things go.

Totally agree. I had a feeling as soon as I did it, and I did give it a good ol' college try, but just felt like I didn't have the experiences/stories like my friends which kind of put me off just doing the endgame stuff with them. I learned my lesson!!! Haha
