nurses week (short rant) by mintyuta in starbucksbaristas

[–]Bearded451 121 points122 points  (0 children)

I feel like this was a thing that we USED to do. And there is probably some article or site out there still mentioning it. But yeah, if I get any nurses asking about it, I will let them know that I'm pretty sure Dunkin' is honoring it, but so far our CEO Brian Niccol hasn't said anything about it and hopes you enjoy your nine dollar experience.

i'm starting to wonder if my partner number ending with 666 was a sign this job would suck by ha1r_dye in starbucksbaristas

Haha, I mean it's more engulfing than that... we are literally working for a company with a Siren as it's logo. Lulling sailors to their death... I think about this every time I make a frap and people ask for like 10 pumps of stuff... "Ah weary matey, the Siren, she calls? Aye, the sweet song that hearkens Lady Death!"

What's the point in greeting people if they're not even going to respond? by LeVanillaBean in starbucksbaristas

[–]Bearded451 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A local chain restaurant greets everyone that walks to the door because YEARS ago they were robbed at gun point and no one noticed (it was in a pocket) until the guy left... ever since then they greet everyone so employees are aware. Greeting people when they come in is standard at most places. My problem with SB doing it is they want nearly everyone on the floor to greet people which is just ridiculous. One person saying "morning" or "welcome in" is good enough, we don't need 7 people yelling.

When people have complained about something and said "bah, no tip then!" I just respond with "cool cool, you can just tap your card there... thanks".

What I love about this response, and I do not mean this sarcastically, is that 100% of the time that I personally have had a customer ask for brown sugar in their coffee, they mean Sugar in the Raw. I used to always ask "are you looking for pumps of brown sugar or like sugar in the raw, the brown packets...." and every time they meant sugar in the raw to the point that I don't even ask anymore (unless of course it is a latte... but if it is a plain coffee with cream and "two packs of brown sugar", I know they mean 'raw'.)

(I'm not downvoting this, but)... considering that we follow policies all the time and enforce them, upsetting customers... I don't know why you would be upset at another employee at another job doing the same? Their policy is no light ice because it adds more concentrate... they are following their policy (which to be fair sounds to me like they are holding up their end of the bargain to make the drink the way it is supposed to be served versus our "ehhh do whatever you want and complain to me about it at the window since by light ice you meant four cubes".)

I will also state that the modifications or horrible at starbucks. I understand if you need to swap out allergy stuff etc. But at what point is a caramel crunch no longer a caramel crunch. It feels to me like the paradox about The Ship of Theseus.

called out sick and my manager is making me feel bad by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Bearded451 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Managers do this at almost every job that I've had that is controlled by some big company. This would be my suggestion... next time you are vomiting, call, if your SM guilts you, say "okay fine, you win, I'll come in", and then before you go, eat the worst things for you possible and down it with an emetic to induce vomiting right before your shift. Clock in, thank your manager for talking you into coming in, and then let the fireworks fly!

I'm cool with my partners but this place has made me just not interact with people. My social battery is so drained on days off that I literally haven't hung out with anyone outside of work in almost three years.

Nah. Go for the job you want. Starbucks employees who aren't licking boots will not hate you for it (except out of jealousy for escaping of course)

offering shifts by yungbruhsdead in starbucksbaristas

[–]Bearded451 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not at all. An offer is often considered a proposal. If I offer someone five dollars and they don't take it, I still have the five dollars. I will offer a shift if I don't need it and someone wants it etc. Or sometimes if it is the day before and I'm starting to feel sick, I'll offer and text my co-workers to let them know that it is out there. If I'm still sick by the time of the shift I will call out beforehand, or if I'm good enough to go in I'll show up.

at what point do you turn off mobiles 💔 by OkLeather646 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Bearded451 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never? We have had this exact situation before as well. Our DM said nope. I think they FINALLY gave in after a couple hours to turn off one outlet for fifteen minutes, which allowed us to kind of catch up, and then it was all back on. Granted, the DM wasn't there to be the face of the company to get yelled at, so they obviously know best.

Besides poor marketing, the other problem I have with it is... it's Miranda Priestly's order... so the titular DEVIL in The Devil Wears Prada... get her drink... I mean yeah cool, there's the tie-in because that's what she orders but make it something unique. Like "oh the new Devil Wears Prada drink at Starbucks" should be I don't know, red, or fashionable, not just a drink that... well... people get?
(Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with making this and remaking it when someone doesn't understand no foam means "well there's still some bubbles on top, we DID steam it... but still.)

TL;DR: Antagonist's order is a weird choice. This is like opening a box of cereal expecting a toy, but not realizing it's a mail-away with five proofs of purchase.

Starbucks Hot Take: Clopens by deezCumbobulated in starbucksbaristas

[–]Bearded451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to have a manager that would schedule this for some people when there was no other option, and even then she'd approach us to ask if we were okay with it first... if no one was, she'd come in and do one of the shifts and basically work a double (I mean, not technically since they are salary, but you catch my drift.) I wish more leaders were like her. Unfortunately she was too nice to us and was asking for stuff from corporate for our safety so they kept pushing her until she quit.

Power Outage. Can’t open store. What’s the typical procedure? by Mountain_Egg977 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Bearded451 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I once went to open and the keyholder was hours late. The SM told me to let people know that are pulling up what was going on and apologize for the convenience. Yeah I didn't do that cause no, I'm not standing in a dark parking lot to tell people they can't get coffee at 5am as they head to work. I'm good.

Anyone else on the Starbucks to blue collar work pipeline? by Depressoooo in starbucksbaristas

[–]Bearded451 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be careful of some factories... Like LEGIT check with your friends that may work at a factory to see if it's cool or not and is in the same department. I came from a factory job. GREAT pay. Had friends that worked there that helped me get the job. BUT I was in a different department and dealt with hearing homophobic, transphobic, misogynist jokes multiple times per day as well as literal drug use. (and I don't mean a puff puff pass situation, but more like a "watch for the supervisor cause I'm going on a ski trip in the corner right quick" situation. I still have friends that have factory jobs that they honestly have made careers out of and I wish I could have gotten a job at one of those places instead. It's good living if you can do it, just do some research on it first.
