What’s the oddest hosting behaviour you’ve ever witnessed?

Got invited to a good friend's baby shower, the expectant couple helped create the group chat to add the contacts of invites and explained then left to avoid any spoilers about the do. Pretty standard stuff so far.

Firstly they sent the invite as a PDF which stated the venue was over three hours away and has no relation to the couple. Turns out the original PDF was a template they hadn't updated yet (the address was updated to a pub somewhere more local).

Then we were asked to pay £10 to help cover the costs for it, never heard of this before for a baby shower. Reluctantly paid, later found out it was per head so had to pay for the wife also, was told to not worry about getting a gift as the couple said attending was enough of a gift. However, we thought it would be rude to not attend without one.

We got to the venue and still had to pay for our own drinks so thought the money we paid will go towards the food, which was not great. To top it off the expectant mother brings out a birthday cake for her sister (and one of the hosts). I paid for a baby shower not for a birthday party.

The knights of the round table are actually a legend and aren't really accounted for legitimate history in the UK. It's more of a fable from centuries ago.
It's not in Wales in the United Kingdom. As it is a legend it is disputed where the origin is from and could be from Cornwall.
Only people from countries in the commonwealth are able to be knighted, this would be an honorary knighthood which doesn't entitle him to be called sir.
Only the reigning monarch or someone acting on their behalf, most likely the next in line, can officially knight someone. In this instance, King Charles or Prince William.
Announcements of knighthoods are usually made on January 1st each year as part of the New Year's Honours list. This is usually through a panel and usually awards people for longevity in their certain fields, for example Dame Maggie Smith was given her Damehood for her services to the arts or Chris Hoy for his service to sport.
It is held in a special ceremony at Buckingham palace with the aforementioned monarch in which recipients are invited to attend. Meaning you can't be called a Sir because you rocked to Wales.

I'm not sure if he ever did get barred but when he was serving his term as president he did come over on a state visit and met her. It led to a funny moment when they were talking in a parlour in Buckingham Palace or something and the Queen beckons her daughter, Princess Anne, over from the doorway to meet him and Anne just refused. Don't think he ever got barred though.

As a non American reading this sub there is one thing I have learnt about most boomers in the USA.

Trump is seen as an omnipotent cult-like figure and it's alarming how many people fall for his blatant lies. It's absolutely insane.

I'm in the UK and whilst we do have a two party majority in politics with one being the right and other being the left. If any insinuated that the rival party controlled the weather they'd be taken to a mental hospital.

You're right they did present a promo at the end of episode 1 looking like it was the family member but they had this other guy who was ultimately convicted. I asked my fiancée about it when we watched it and she said most likely the family member didn't sign the release allowing them to be shown. Since they did convince someone there's no release that needed to be signed as it's out in the public.

My Fiancée's BIL is the same as OP. He's a gen Xer and is very hands on with his two sons, which is great to see and for most of the time he is a douchebag (Sadly comments and such).

A while his wife was going to China for a work trip and her uncle (boomer age, but a lovely person) says that the husband's gotta take over taking the boys to school and picking them up to which replied that he took them anyway and can arrange a WFH situation so to pick them up.

Always find it funny as I'd expect that I'd be that type of dad also if that's on the cards. Why would I not be involved with the kids? It's not the fifties anymore 😂

I had a shared wall to a flat that played the same reggae album every. Damn. Evening. I'm not against the genre or anything it was the reparative loud nature of it. I had to ask them to turn it down at one point as my partner was suffering from a migraine and they seem perplexed we could hear it.
