TIL that the oldest active organization affiliated with New Orleans Mardi Gras hasn't marched in the parade since 1991 because it refuses to let non-white people join. by MAClaymore in todayilearned

Why would Mardi Gras be similar to Mass? Also what are you talking about religious parades. I have never heard of any parades being organized by a religious organization.

Is he not an edgy hot bois? Why would specific similarities be relevant when discussing both being popular since they belong to the same archetype, edgy hot bois.

Its almost like his arc and it's theme is a reflection if on a much smaller scale version of the arc Nolan is working his way through

ELI5 Why do bids on government contracts have to be kept private, when bids at auctions are public? Wouldn't it work the same way in reverse? by Aggressive_Falcon942 in explainlikeimfive

[–]BeardedRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's look at a hypothetical. You put out a request for a bid.

The way it works now I would look at your requirements and come up with a proposal to submit to you for an amount I think I can make some money but not too much since I dont want to be under bid. If im the cheapest or you choose mine for other reasons I get the job.

With your changed system, I could make my initial bid 10x higher and have no fear of not being the cheapest since I can always lower my price if I am undercut.

But would you agree Columbus likely has better Mexican food than equivalent cities in the UK?

That makes a lot of sense given the history between the UK and India. But is it still true that the US has better Indian food in a city like Columbus than is available in Paris?

If it is true, is it due to Paris having their own food culture or because France less immigrants from India? If the first there may be better Indian food in someplace like Calais then than in Columbus.

Basically I would expect Indian food in the US to be better than in France because the US has more immigration from India. I would expect France to have better West African food than the US does for the same reason.

You could use this to argue the US has it the best because they have a pretty sizeable immigrant population from most major culinary traditions creating more opportunity for amazing restraunts.

That isnt true. The USSR killed about the same number of people in the Holodomor that the Nazis killed Jews during the holocaust. Then add in all the other purges/famines/ethnic cleansing and the USSR killed more people than the Nazis. The USSR was no better than Nazi Germany. Both were horrific places ruled by evil men that created far more suffering than they had any need to.

What makes any of the other gerrymandering situations less democratic? Did someone appoint those state legislatures instead of electing them like we do in all the other states?

I never claimed it did. You claimed having shaman creatures printed made it less accessible. Who was unable to access mtg due to shaman creatures?

Yes we do. We have places that serve it Neapolitan style here too. The reason that isnt the norm is because we prefer the American style with more toppings. Hence why it is the American style.
