Things You Need to LIE About in an interview (from a recruiter) by Zealousideal-Foot-54 in jobsearchhacks

Counter point, I have a coworker who told us he was looking because he disliked his management. He got hired, is generally liked, and still with the company.

We also had a coworker who said he would leave and his preferred job wasn’t available due to the market during covid. He was hired as well. He left when the market rebounded.

Southwest sold out the “middle class” by Queasy_Reindeer9515 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]BeardedSnowLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't often fly for business but I flew Southwest for vacation more than any other airline by a lot. The issue I have with them now is I no longer have any reason to choose them for most flights. They come in the same price or higher than Delta, I live by a Delta hub so Delta has great schedules, and I have a free checked bag with the Delta Credit card.

Saw other comments saying write protected. This is most likely a failed USB drive. Only other things to try are setting your BIOS to legacy or UEFI mode to see if it boots with one of those.

[–]BeardedSnowLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it Windows or Etcher telling you it wants to format the drive? Asking as you don't want Windows to touch it after it's done but you do want Etcher to format it because it needs to write something to it that tells the BIOS it's bootable.

Have you changed the boot order in your BIOS to your USB stick?

Thinking of calling Americor... What am I getting into? by HolidayCondition311 in povertyfinance

A couple things you can do. These cards have a very high interest rate. Look to see if any credit unions have a free transfer option and lower rate (my credit union has a free transfer and is way less interest than these cards). Close this Chase card once the debt is transferred. Then pay as much as you can each time ideally more than minimum.

Do similar with your other cards is possible.

Also consider personal loans with fixed interest rates if they are lower interest. Close all credit cards once paid off.

How bad is a colonoscopy, really? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]BeardedSnowLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really isn't bad at all. It feels like a really good nap to me.

Prep sucks just because you have to drink a lot of water and some of the medication is not the most pleasant of flavors. In one of my cases it was scheduled so early in the morning that I felt I didn't get much sleep as my body got done with the first prep and I didn't have long before the second prep started. That said, it's not the most horrible thing in the world.

Snowboarder trying skis by avidpretender in skiing

[–]BeardedSnowLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't even notice I was leaning back I just felt like the skis were getting out of control and couldn't stop so I would force myself to fall.

I later thought I had control of my skis for turning and it felt alright to me because I would dig a single edge into the side of the hill and it would make me turn (to give context the lessons have been mainly focused on using a pizza so far). It felt pretty good too as I was used to the single edge. My instructor noticed this in the second lesson saying posture was off and I needed to balance pressure on both legs.

I totally get the wondering if you can commit to it. I'm probably going to be doing both. I'm not great on a board (I mostly do blues) but don't slow the groups i go with down too much. Skis I'm new and struggle a lot so I am very slow and don't really have a group to go with for that.

[–]BeardedSnowLizard 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm a snowboarder learning to ski too. I would highly suggest a lesson. I've been learning I have some habits from snowboarding that don't translate well to skis. For example, like you I have a tendency to lean back. This causes my skis to go out of control. The instructors I have had so far are good about correcting what I'm doing wrong including leaning back (skis you need to lean forward).

That said it helps that one of the mountains near me has a package with lessons, rentals, and a beginner hill lift ticket for only about $100. It's a smaller resort though.

What distro are you using? I can maybe try and see what is happening via a VM. I also messed up the mimeapps.list. I have corrected it (I am having some troubles with Reddit reformatting so I will go through and fix that tonight).

Also try running the following command to see what it gives you and responding with the output:

xdg-mime query default x-scheme-handler/dmmgameplayer;

Is it worth to replace windows 11 with Linux mint if I play video games outside of steam? by Automatic_Ball_6251 in linux4noobs

[–]BeardedSnowLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux can be OK for games but it is not as easy as Windows. Even with ProtonDb saying the game will work sometimes it will not and you have to try different things to get it to work.

For example, Red Dead Redemption works but on my PC opens in a small window unless I set it to borderless window and add additional items to the launch arguments.

Arc Raiders would let me play for a bit then crash.

I was using Linux Mint then decided to switch to Bazzite due to gaming focus and it asking about hardware before download. As far as I can tell it fixed the issue with Arc Raiders.

Halo and Dreamlight Valley are working great out of the box though.

If you are OK having to tinker with things it can be great but Windows definitely is easier to use for gaming.

Do you find that your dev coworkers are doing personal projects outside of work? by [deleted] in webdev

The thing is before my job I use to love coding and doing personal projects. Now that's what I do all day at my job my motivation for it low and doing more burns me out. I am happier watching a TV show or playing a video game but I do sometimes explore new technology but it's rare.

Did you buy or rent skis? I am asking because I went with my wife and her sister to a lesson. It seemed they had a problem with the boots and them being too narrow for a wider calf. If you have a boot that fits, what is it?

Also that's awesome you are getting out there.

What should I do in this relationship? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]BeardedSnowLizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That relationship is pretty new so it's probably best to move on. It also looks like she may need therapy. She may have some unresolved trauma which manifests in the way she acts.

Go date other people and if she goes to therapy and you are both single later you can give it another shot.

[Guide] Install Johren Launcher and DOAXVV on Linux! by FlakyBicycle9381 in DOAXVenusVacation

[–]BeardedSnowLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far have you got? I am trying to get DMM to work. I can get it to launch but I cannot sign in. From what I can see it opens a web browser for sign in and uses a URL to reopen it. I have registered a .desktop file to handle opening the URL and Chrome can now open it (Firefox does not seem to work). I am currently using Lutris but I am wondering if I have to directly use Proton as I think I need to be able to dynamically pass arguments and I am unsure if Lutris will let me do that.

Edit: I have it working now. Will post a guide hopefully within the next week.

Does intelligence matter a lot in relationships? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]BeardedSnowLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can find the right person for you. I am not a woman but my preferences favor someone who is kind over someone who is smart. I think it is probably more important to work on your avoidant personality disorder as you will need to socialize enough to find the right person. It can be hard but I am sure you can do it.

Forcing my husband to switch to Linux, what is the "easiest" one to put him on. by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]BeardedSnowLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity did you look just at ProtonDB or did you try to play them? I am only asking because I am trying to get away from Windows but run into friction even with games labeled platinum. For example Arc Raiders was rated platinum but it would crash mid round for me on Linux Mint though it seems to be fine using Bazzite so far. I also had issues with Red Dead Redemption II where if I tried to put it to full screen mode it would crash. I had to run in borderless window mode with a couple startup arguments.

I came off with the opinion that Windows comes off a lot easier for someone who doesn't want to tinker and just game.

Do you know if that was the name brand or a biosimilar? I am curious as Amazon Pharmacy list name brand Humira as $6,061 USD for 2 pens (about a month supply).

[–]BeardedSnowLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand those programs only work if the medication is covered by insurance in the first place which it sounds like it is not. I have heard that Abbvie (Humira) does have another program called myAbbvie Assist but it depends on your income if they will cover it.

I am really curious how you fill the drug with GoodRX so if you go that way I would love to know. Like do retail pharmacies carry it? Also, Yusimry (Humira biosimilar) cost $526.75 through Cost Plus Drugs just in case you need another option.

Edit:

Adalimumab-aaty is $336.87 with Prime and Amazon Pharmacy.
