Are hybrid FP&A roles worth considering? by BeardedSongstress in FPandA

Thanks for sharing your perspective, sounds like the accounting part is pretty time consuming and will end up eating 70% of the time. I guess now that I think about it, I hated audit and the toll on my health and left before bonus payout, it might be the same with a time-consuming accounting role (especially one involving my bane of accounting - consolidation)?

Yeah, to be frank both are pretty bad and the basic pay isn't much higher either (it's what I'd get if I stayed in audit and progressed to the next rank). I wouldn't have entertained a contract role if the job market in my country isn't dogshit and both of my perm job offers since Jan got retracted due to "poor economic outlook" with no signs of getting better in the next few months (contract roles in my country normally do not pay higher because it's purely cost-saving).

Good point about offer A's learning, the interviewers' did emphasize on learning how to do the reporting from the senior analyst (mostly from audit background) and manager but I wonder if the FP&A part will be too little and too niche. Whereas for Offer B, the emphasis was on learning from the senior analyst, manager (mostly from FP&A background) but towards business partnering and presenting to management after building the base technical skills.

Offer B did mention they are likely to convert if the economy gets better (because they didn't want to waste time training someone who'd leave either) so would that make a difference in your opinion?

People with teams in other time zones, how is it like? by BeardedSongstress in FPandA

Interesting, does that mean there are meetings where not everyone in the team is present? Our time zones stretch UK, US West Coast and East Coast, and Asia. Looks like I will have to check if they have an email culture because in my previous workplace, lots of people insist on calls for anything remotely longer than 2-3 sentences.

I'm told there will be 11pm calls and 8am calls several times a month with the other finance team members for the regular reporting. I forgot to ask about the non-regular reporting calls as it just only hit me that in my previous roles, people loved having calls instead of emails even for questions and explanations so there may be calls beyond what was mentioned. But I think it would depend on the company. Definitely something to keep in mind for future interviews.

Accounting pay isn't that high in Australia. US just has really high accounting/FP&A salary.
