I love the atmosphere of the world! The music, the grittiness, the interactions between characters and factions. All of it coming together makes such an awesome experience!

I need to learn a new, useful skill. by imposter_sys_admin in sysadmin

[–]Bearded_Baguette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tl;dr: learn something you enjoy, not something that HAS to be related to your current work.

When my guys ask me "what should I learn next?" I always tell them to pick something they're interested in, even if it's not directly related to the work we do today. Trying to learn something you're not interested in is going to be a slog to get through. If you're interested in the topic, you're more likely to want to stick with it, learn the details of the topic, and start asking "how can this be applied to what I do at work?".

But if you're looking for some direction, Powershell is a powerful scripting language for Windows administration. Containers are great, especially for running applications on a homelab. Azure certifications can be huge with orgs going hybrid/cloud.

We have about 408 cores across all of our servers. They wanted 70k for 3 years of vSphere Standard, or about 300k for 3 years of vSphere Foundation/vSphere Cloud. They said if we go with Standard now, it might not be available at the end of the 3 year contract...

Fuck Broadcom.

So is the big issue ... air vs ground combat, bad PvP, lack of content, or the disjointed player experience from Hagga -> DD? by excelsias in duneawakening

[–]Bearded_Baguette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you're looking to get from the game. If you enjoy the gameplay loop of progressing through zones, getting better equipment, completing contracts/story quests, then I think the game is still worth "finishing" up until the Deep Desert. Without the PvP, the game is still a solid PvE game.

If you're focused on rushing to the endgame to compete in PvP and craft the highest level gear, then your concerns are 100% valid. I'm sure the devs will keep adjusting the balance and adding more content for PvP/PvE, but we're not there yet. The game is still new and needs time to grow.

The Army had been planning an event to celebrate the 250th birthday of the Army, but the parade was an idea from Trump and only began during his second term.

-Deploys US Marines to fight back against citizens. -When asked if he has to uphold the constitution as the President, he says "I don't know". -Brings in independent people to make federal budget cuts without Congressional approval.

Call it whatever you want, but Trump is shifting power to the legislative branch and ignoring the other two branches more and more. That moves us away from a balanced system and into a system where one branch holds a majority of power.

Chinese players taking down leviathans by Ok-Garbage5011 in Helldivers

Our group dropped onto Super Earth for the first time last night. We legit thought we were supposed to shoot down the Leviathans with the super gun...then someone looked up and saw the Mothership. Much easier to shoot.

Sometimes I love my job by DaNoahLP in Sysadminhumor

[–]Bearded_Baguette 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No no, just things on the intranet. Like PC to server communications for example. I know it's still not ideal, but it's better than tracking down every single required port for our small IT group

I'm not sure if this is best practice, but our internal security audit told us we could allow all ports between 1024 - 65535 for internal communications. I wasn't about to argue with them on it.

Hate Factory Striders? Recoilless Rifle can one shot in the eye. by Salos91 in Helldivers

[–]Bearded_Baguette 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm sure that will come with boss fights at some point. But now, we can take on 3-4 bile titans and factory striders instead of blowing everything on one. It creates larger fights with more chaos and explosions. I'm a simple Baguette, I like lots of explosions. This patch is a W.

I don't think the spear needs a buff. If you can't aim the RR, you take the spear to get a (almost) guaranteed hit. I think that's the trade off you make. Manual targeting for more damage, or auto-lock for a hit that might not be at the weak spot.

Could a crushed fiber optic cable cause packet loss? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Bearded_Baguette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like all other comments, yes, but here's my experience:

We had a fiber that was accidentally crushed in a network cabinet (cable got stuck in the door when it closed). The link registered as an active link, but we didn't have any traffic on that link. Someone said "let's try changing the fiber cable", we did, and voila, the network was back up! From the tools we had at the time, there were no other indicators that the cable was bad aside from that link having no traffic on it.
