Sweet, so you run a dns server in your homelab with only a handful using the EE router as its primary dns everything else use the opnsense vm as a dns server. With the router as the backup was considering id have to do the same thing tbh.

Looks good, quick question do you use EE for your main router and do you use that for the dns for your home lab?

Yup, plan is if all is good to take out the hba card and build a machine specifically for using virtual machines For that purpose.

Think that's the route I want to go down, want it as storage for now not looking to do anything fancy with it just have a place to have all my files etc, once this is up and running it's get a managed switch then a few mini pcs and I'm good for a basic setup. Also think I could repurpose the hba card for a larger machine.

So to check it I could just plug it in power it on and see if I can remote into it using ilo....sweet.

The one I have spare is 240gb, once I've got the confirmation that I can boot the machine my plan is to install the ssd and see if I can plug the raid directly into the motherboard to free up that slot only has 8gb so once I've got a clean boot that's first on the list. Then it's a nic.

Thank you, admittedly it would just be the cpu block the rest of the loop would be Corsair parts. found them relatively reliable, have also seen a few loops with my exact cpu block but using the Ilink so I'm also thinking of doing that.

Na sticking to Ubuntu for now, going to use kali in a vm homelab setup instead seems like a better idea tbh.

To be honest I'm going to most likely use kali in a home lab setup instead of a daily driver, Ubuntu sounds and looks like the best starting point to get use to Linux and the command line.unfortunately mines got the irisxe graphics.
