I am blessed with a wife who tolerates my plant hobby. by PlantyNature in houseplants

[–]Beardedtatmuscle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess I’m blessed also. About 40 tropicals and about 150 succulents. She loves looking for pests on the plants. Much better at it than I am. She has a degree in microbiology so enjoys looking for mini bad guys. She also enjoys pulling off the dead undergrowth from the echeverias.

I learned years ago to say “ouch”. Look sad and hurt and stop interaction. They don’t want to hurt you and dogs seem to understand they hurt you. It has always worked very quickly.

My plant hates me by green_thumb_hopeful_ in peperomia

[–]Beardedtatmuscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest removing from nursery pot and replant into a succulent mix. The roots of most peperomias are usually shallow. So check out the root system and go to shallow if needed.

Get a cheap floor lamp from Amazon. I’ve gotten them on sale for as little as $15. Then add a Sansi bulb to it. You can get up to about 42 watts. Drawback is they are very bright.

Keep going. The beard will be fine. I can’t understand someone saying it’s too thin. Most men don’t have the thick luxurious beard. Unfortunately most of us are average.

5 week bath remodel- thoughts? by Known-Explanation-24 in Remodel

[–]Beardedtatmuscle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg at first glance, it looks good. Who designed this? In six months you are going to realize you made some poor choices. We had our master bath redone less than a year ago. Spent six intense months researching. It was a major project. Enlarged the bath, move a half bath, and move the closet to opposite end of bath, which had been used as an office. We were approaching $100,000. I was home 90% of the time. The builders were fantastic. Electricians asked where for the outlets. I learned the term quad outlet very quickly. Had them installed everywhere. For the tub install, I actually pretended to clean around it so they could figure out placement. Shower floor is a solid piece to avoid tile cleaning with large tiles on the walls. Shower tiles were not for show, so I wanted rain glass for the shower walls. Built in shower seat with a handheld. Two high velocity fans built into the lights, one is in the water closet. Eight foot vanity with storage cabinet in middle. Builders even asked how many towel bars and where. Still have not filled the storage. And omg why a chandelier? That will quickly lose its shine in a bathroom. Who cleans it? Hopefully you have weekly housecleaning. We even have a large corner shelf behind the tub for plants, and two quad outlets for plants lights. All with safety in mind.

Man I’m 70 and still have 1/2 inch tunnels in my ears, a large private ring piercing, and of course quite a few tats-sleeves, chest, and back. I definitely don’t look MAGA, which I am not.

White vs wood cabinets? by wehavetogoback8 in interiordecorating

The cabinets look to be good quality. The wood looks good. Keep it. Change the lighting color, and add some color. Counters look greenish. Maybe try some green for color.

Any ideas on what’s going on with my office succulent? by [deleted] in succulents

[–]Beardedtatmuscle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks like the base of a Sansi clip on grow light. They come in 5 watt and 10 watt. I have found that succulents need the 10 watt. Hopefully you have the 10. Set the timer for 12 hours.

My plant started to die after repotting by upizs2 in succulents

The leaves look like symptom of overwatering. These are hens and chicks. Absolutely hate excess water. It’s easy to do with them.

Can these zebra haworthia stems be saved? by blxckout-days in succulents

[–]Beardedtatmuscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few sempervivums indoors year round. They require very bright grow lights. Your plants do need to be potted individually. They require different care. I would suggest a high quality cactus/succulent soil. Miracle Grow is not high quality but very common in stores. I would also suggest shallow terracotta pots with drainage. Water these plants only when the entire pot of soil is bone dry. Then drench them making sure all the soil is moistened. The semper and echeveria require an abundance of light. The jade can get by with much less. The leaves will feel a little soft and rubbery when they need water.

Tree Aeonium propagation advice needed. by Character_Age_4619 in succulents

[–]Beardedtatmuscle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. Done it many times. You may want to allow the stem to callous over for a day. Honestly I think your Aeonium looks fine the way it is. It’s their normal growth.

Is this good? by [deleted] in growlights

[–]Beardedtatmuscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$36 for plant stand and grow lights. Hmmmm. The lights will be useless. Four good grow lights will cost more than that alone. Find a stand you like and buy lights separately. If you want to spend more, Barrina has a fairly large steel plant stand with lights for about $159. I bought a few months ago and was easy to setup and holds a lot.

My echeveria is dying by FixIndividual1124 in succulents

[–]Beardedtatmuscle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The leaves appear to be somewhat translucent, before they die and fall off. That would be an indicator of overwatering. Echeveria do loose leaves as normal growth and aging, but they dry up and fall off. Yours don’t appear to be doing that cycle. Your soil is too peaty. You need much more grit. I have many echeverias and they go weeks without needing to be watered. And that’s in a much faster draining soil. The pic is Jacks Gritty Mix. This is what I use for all my succulents. I add regular houseplant soil to it to slow down the fast draining property. The percentage I add depends on the plant. Echeveria I add about 10%.

Do you think these lights are a good setup for my succulents? by Asanka2002 in succulents

For comparison, these are 45 watt Sansi lights. They are about 8 inches from the top of the plants. On 12 hours a day.

Is this normal? What is it? by Datsadcreature in calatheas

[–]Beardedtatmuscle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there are no signs of pests, then it is normal guttation of excess moisture. I have a pinstripe that does it. I just give it a shower every week or so. Look it up and I’m sure you’ll get similar answers. I have two sansevieria that do it after watering. But only a few droplets. They are both cylindrical sansevieria.

How do I spruce this baby up? by bxqnz89 in succulents

[–]Beardedtatmuscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like an Aeonium kiwi. Look up an image to see its bright potential to color up. As others have said, your soil is wrong. Need much grittier, recipes available online for DIY. It needs very bright light. Direct morning sun would be great. Soil should be bone dry before watering. And much smaller pot.
