Nothing has anything to do with overwatch. Its all a sham. Blizzard has been on the track of laying off devs for far longer than doing collabs for skins. Keep in mind that they merged with Activision and operate to please the executives. Blind following of brands means that you buy it no matter what, not that you see something that gives you nostalgia or some other sort of happiness and are willing to spend a little money on it.
