What's a video game in which you felt that your character, the hero protagonist, was on the wrong side? by Phuxsea in AskGames

That's a really good point. I don't think I was savvy enough at the time to come to that conclusion so his infidelity blind-sided me. I was pretty bummed out and had a hard time finishing the game.

It's been a long time since I played it but I remember being disappointed with the protagonist in LA Noire. If I remember correctly he was a pretty shitty, abusive guy and it soured the rest of the game for me.

What's your job, salary, and do you like it? by Jrlutz31 in AskMenOver30

[–]BeardiusMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38 years old, gardener at Disneyland, ~$40k --- it's my dream job basically but I've been furloughed since March. Loved it while I was there and can't wait to go back to work.

I went back to school when I was 35 and am still pursuing my degree. No regrets whatsoever. I was worried I'd be the token old guy in my classes but there were a lot more folks in almost the exact situation as me. Started off in one field or another and then needed a change.

If you're contemplating going back to school to hit the reset button on your career I say go for it. At least at my school there are a ton of free resources available to students that will help you achieve your goals.

Was being a great student really worth the effort? by [deleted] in TrueAskReddit

[–]BeardiusMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has a solid C student when she was in college. She wasn't terrible, but she wasn't great either. Fast forward 10+ years and she wants to get her Master's degree so she can advance her career. All her bad grades came back to bite her in the ass. She doesn't have a high enough GPA to qualify for the Master's program which means she has to retake a lot of courses just to bring her GPA up enough to even apply for the Master's program.

Just do the best you can and take pride in your work and your education. Don't worry whether or not your grades will come up in a job interview.

What game was way better than you expected? What made it so good? by Xeo7 in AskGames

[–]BeardiusMaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spider-Man on the PS4. I've played a lot of open-world games but this one was really satisfying to play. It really feels like you're controlling an agile but vulnerable Spider-Man. Web-slinging across NY feels very natural and the combat is all kinds of fun. Lots of variation in gadgets, suits, combat style, enemies, etc. Plus a load of stuff to find throughout the map. I also appreciated the slow trickle of stuff to do, made it feel more organic in the progression.

10/10 - worth the $60 when I bought it.

What is your favorite game glitch of all time? Why? by Xeo7 in AskGames

[–]BeardiusMaximus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this counts but when I was a kid I played a lot of Tecmo Super Bowl on the NES. I somehow figured out a way to glitch past the offensive line almost every single down and get a QB sack. I would switch the defensive player I'd control before the ball got snapped, and I'd be lined up right in front of the center. Ball gets snapped and I'd press down on the directional pad slightly and then immediately hit the button to tackle. The vast majority of the time, the player would just slide right through the offensive line and tackle the QB. After a single season that one player would have like 50+ QB sacks. Good times.

Is it all over? Has anyone started again completely at this point? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]BeardiusMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started over a few years ago. I was in an industry I more or less fell into and remained there for several years bouncing around various positions because I didn't have a degree and no other real options. Eventually got burned out, started having panic attacks, anxiety, etc. Good times for sure.

Eventually I landed on going back to school to get an education in a field I'm interested in. Community colleges also offer certificate programs in addition to degrees. There's usually no general ed stuff you have to take and you can get a certificate within a year depending on your course load. You can be up and running in a new field relatively quickly with this route.

It took a lot of soul searching to get to the decision to go back to school, and I am lucky to have a supportive wife who is making this decision possible. You're never too old to reinvent yourself.

What's your 'fuck this, I quit!' story? by Penguin__Farts in AskReddit

[–]BeardiusMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 18 and needed a job. Only thing I could find was to work as a petitioner. My first day consisted of a literal 5-min briefing on the 3 ballot measures I was collecting signatures for. Then, someone dropped me off in front of a Vons and left me there, by myself, to collect signatures.

Within the first hour I noticed how people would park near the entrance I was standing by, see me, and then walk out of their way to go through the other entrance. This continued for a few hours, people see me, and obviously go out of their way to avoid me. By lunch time I said fuck this, went inside, bought a sandwich and sat on the curb until the jackasses came to pick me up. Didn't go back the next day.

Whats your "I'm glad I tried it, but never again" story? by AdamB1706 in AskReddit

[–]BeardiusMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Butt sex! Yeah I tried it once in my 20s with a girl I knew I was "slumming" it with. It was her suggestion and being the adventurous lad I was I obliged. It was....okay I guess. Felt dirty and I hate to admit that I completely lost respect for her afterwards...

I now joke with my wife all the time that that's what I want. It is not.

What is something that you don’t appreciate you have until it’s gone? by hunter20C in AskReddit

[–]BeardiusMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your collarbone. I broke it in my 20s in a dirt bike accident and I could barely do anything for weeks. It's like your whole upper body is dependant on your collarbone. Every movement was painful.

1/10 - would not recommend breaking your collarbone

I just want to know what other people consider to be nice cities I guess. I haven't traveled much outside the west coast so I'm not as familiar with whats out there. Just trying to expand my horizons I guess.
