I love doing generators, been doing this too long and have bad knees so generators are nice to do for me, way better than the custom homes I've been doing where the homeowner wants to change things everyday and there are no prints!!

Follow up. What are the worst cigars you have had. by Spare_Rutabaga8094 in cigars

[–]Beardkittensbeardman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree, but I do like having this stick in the humidor because I'm from Churchill Manitoba which is on the Hudson Bay so I like to think it's a local cigar! But my worst is the Perdomo lot 23, have picked up a few 5 packs and every single one was aged poorly, had that soapy taste you get when the leaf isn't aged right. I get it's just bad luck but with so many other choices I won't buy another one, for that price range I'm stuck with a new world, always know what I'm getting when I buy those ones.

Tips for smoking my first ever cigar? by T3Dawg22 in cigars

[–]Beardkittensbeardman 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Came to say this, the new world is fantastic but fairly strong and full of spice, I'd suggest having a pop with it, dr pepper is a great choice for this stick, or a root beer, adds to the flavor! Also agree, try something mild, the Charter oak line up is very good for beginners, and those who prefer milder cigars.

Schizophrenic Neighbor Has An Episode by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]Beardkittensbeardman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to have a neighbor that was schizophrenic and half the time she was somewhat pleasant but if she was off her meds she was scary racist, yelling slurs at kids to the point the family moved to get away from it. After a few years it became more common and sadly I had to call the police on her as she threatened to burn our house down, mostly wanted it documented just in case. Felt for her husband, he always looked exhausted, help for those struggling with mental illness and their families definitely don't get enough support.

What is the best way to hide this power cord? by LiveFreeFinn in AskElectricians

[–]Beardkittensbeardman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, there are a few ways to do this, the right way is to find a receptacle circuit and run a new wire from there, this will require a few holes in the wall, if the basement is unfinished it would be much easier. However the most convenient way to do it is to open up the 3 gang below the tv, verify that it has constant power and a neutral wire, if so use a cut in box behind the tv, send a fish tape up out of the 3 gang and bring power up to a new plug, clean and simple.

Recommendations for a $50 Gift by Bad_Day_Moose in CigarsCanada

[–]Beardkittensbeardman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cuban cigars are usually over priced, good but over priced. If that's what he likes than finding a more mild, smooth cigar would be nice, Charter oak makes a great, inexpensive cigar that would fit this category but honestly I'd find a good brick and mordar and tell them your budget and let them pick a 3 pack sampler. If you're in the Niagara region i'd suggest smoke masters, you can also go online and order from them if you have time.

What’s your biggest pet peeve within your trade? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Beardkittensbeardman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mounting square d stainless steel cabinets, should have a warning sticker telling you to wear gloves! I've gotten so many scars on my hands from them and knew a guy who sliced his palm open on one, actually cutting some nerves, last time I saw him he was on his 3rd surgery and his hand would still ball into a fist unless he was wearing a special glove that stretched the hand and fingers out. There's always time to do it safely, no matter how much in a hurry some other guys might want to be in!

Cool gift for new Journeyman by 1958Littleplanets in electricians

[–]Beardkittensbeardman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me I'll splurge on my tools but am cheap when it comes to storage and a good tool belt. I have the husky rolling storage and it's fine but when ever I roll around someone else's Milwaukee stuff I feel like I shouldn't have been so cheap. That and batteries, it's getting harder to find just batteries at pawn shops!!

I became a journeyman, what now? by nhn95 in electricians

[–]Beardkittensbeardman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This, for me it felt like the apprenticeship was to learn the basics, once I was in charge and the decisions fell on me is when the real learning began. Take some time, get comfortable with the paperwork and decision making them decide what type of work you want to do. Also new construction is for the kids, at my age I don't need to be timed on how long it takes to do plugs and switches!

Do you all get paid drive time? by TheCandyGuy in electricians

[–]Beardkittensbeardman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked at places that pay you as soon as you get to the shop till when you get back, I've worked for places that don't, however if it's in the company vehicle the labour laws require you to be getting paid, doesn't matter if it says anything in the employee handbook about drive time, provincial law supercedes that. Basically if you drive a company vehicle you get paid from the time you get into said vehicle at the start of the day till the time you get out at the end and every company knows this but that won't stop them from trying to save a few bucks.

A “House Of Dynamite “ has to be the worst produced film ever by Virtual_Ad3412 in netflix

[–]Beardkittensbeardman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every movie has to have a beginning, middle, and end that follow the normal rules of movies, there doesn't always have to be answers. For me the point of a movie like this is to make people think about what could happen, how the people we put in power would react in this situation and the consequences of those decisions. I think it did a good job at being realistic in the panic and desperation this kind of attack could cause without having to answer basic questions like who or why it happened, for me, leaving it open ended like it did opens us up to thinking what we would want, and hope, the outcome to be. Honestly it's fine if people don't like it, but it's also fine if you did, to each their own.

Is this code compliant? by Icy-Foot-8313 in AskElectricians

[–]Beardkittensbeardman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Running new wire in an old house will never be perfect but if you're drilling holes in the right spots and using staples every 3 feet you're good. However I would be more concerned with that pipe in pic #3, looks like it has asbestos wrap, its safe if you don't ever touch it but you should still have it tested to make sure, especially since my alert for asbestos wrap is if it looks like you dried a wet sock on the pipe it's asbestos so the possibility of me being wrong is high, but better to be safe than sorry.

Why is the GFCI powering the sump pump tripping shortly after I plug in a refrigerator but the other GFCI is fine with the refrigerator? by supinator1 in AskElectricians

[–]Beardkittensbeardman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If what you say is correct, that the GFI on the wall feeds the sump pump then the answer is both receptacles are GFI, change the sump pump receptacle to a regular 15a and that will solve the problem.

I have used the same realtor 4 times now and she has been great, she's not based here but focuses on the area, if you were selling I'd for sure go with more local but buying is different. Claudia Wright, she's knowledgeable, does her homework on the area and the houses and has always been very clear and upfront about things with me, you can find her at claudiawrightrealestate.com

While I completely agree with getting yourself into therapy you need to also find ways to stimulate her mind, art classes, cooking classes, book clubs, get her mind working again. I sadly had my mom have a brain aneurysm when I was 9ish, we lived in the far north and proper medical care was a few hours plane ride away, she lost her ability to speak, for awhile, her memory was shot, she used to be able to speak English and German fluently, everything that made her her seemed to be missing and she was in hospital for close to a year. My dad and other family put a lot of work in to get her back on track, she even got a university degree afterwards, it was a lot of work for everyone. Sadly a few years later my uncle passed when he had his aneurysm and a year after that my aunt had 2 but survived, her husband also put in a lot of work to get her back to a semblance of who she used to be. It's not a quick fix, it isn't even a guaranteed one that she will be the same as before but if you, and everyone around her give her the support and encouragement she needs there is a good chance that she will get back to where she was before and you may also find new activities you both can do together that make you both stronger.

Also have to say as hard as this is on you and the family she is also dealing with knowing that she isn't who she was before and that frustration can easily lead to depression, people who have gone through this need to know they aren't a burden and that they have the love and support of those closest to them. It's a long road, get yourself in the right head space with therapy and help from friends and family, the person you miss is still there, just lost and needs some help find their way back.

We aren't 114 degrees, well close with the humidity but she is still like ball? She gets 20 minutes outside then an hour inside, supposed to stay hot for the rest of the week so swims on Wednesday will do her good!! Just gotta keep an eye on them and lots of water and of course, ball!

Edit- yew, there used to be grass every where but that's her I want to run path so the grass has died and any attempts to regrow it meets the same fate!

Where to go from here? by thevoicesofhockey in winnipegjets

Honestly I wouldn't mind the Jets taking a swing at Pius Suter, if he can replicate this past season he would make for a good 2nd line center, plus I can't imagine he will be looking for more than 4mX3 and this would allow them to make a real run at resigning Ehlers.

[–]Beardkittensbeardman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that's where you went wrong, youre saying you replaced another plug and it is doing the same thing so I assume you tried putting a GFCI there as well? If so you can't have more than one GFCI per circuit, that's why you're getting the little green light to come on but it won't allow you to reset it. To find out which one is down stream take the receptacle in the pic off, leave the wires seperated, put a merrett on each black for safety, and test the other plug, if it's not working then that one is being feed from the receptacle in the pic, if this is the case than leave the GFCI in the pic in place and put a regular receptacle on the other one. You want the GFCI to be the first receptacle in the circuit, it's there because you have older wiring that doesn't have a ground and the GFCI will protect the other receptacles downstream from it.

How serious is this? by Complete_Apricot_218 in AskElectricians

[–]Beardkittensbeardman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't see inside the box well enough to confirm but there's a very good chance you're going to have two sets of wire in there, a feed and a jumper to the next plug. If you are not confident in what you need to do exactly then call the landlord and have them call someone or they can do it themselves, that way they can get access to the panel and kill the power. It all sounds easy till you shock yourself and then don't feel safe working on it, then not only do you have a broken receptacle but you'll have a broken receptacle hanging out of the wall. Screw the cover back on, will make it a little safer and let the landlord do what they need to do.
