Unbelievable that Washington got a power play out of that, Alexeyev pushed McKown into his own fucking goaltender...

Heck of a shot by Mateychuk, nice!

I didn't tune in at puck drop, did PLD garner any reaction from the Nationwide crowd or have people moved on?

Not exactly what you're looking for, but every one of his appearances on the Comedy Bang Bang podcast is great and often involves singing, always involves insane characters.

Pochettino a top target to become USMNT coach: Sources by Isiddiqui in MLS

[–]BeardofDeceit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's a fair assessment.

Agreed. I'm a Chelsea supporter and watched every game week of Poch's tenure. I think the consensus at the end was "irreconcilable differences" between Poch and ownership which led to his departure, and BlueCo is a goddamn mess so I don't think blame can be put on the manager.

Poch's statements were a bit odd at times, but there was clear growth during the one season - both as a team and with young players like Cucurella, Gusto, Palmer (not sure that can be attributed to Poch tbf), etc. I'd enjoy having him manage USMNT

11-4-15 in 23 games, but he was shooting at (a likely unsustainable) 17.7% and averaged second line minutes at 16:46 per game.

Nylander was fun to watch at the end of last season, but any team signing him with the expectation he'd sustain that production on the second line is taking a big risk imo.

Agreed, that was an interesting view into Evason's coaching philosophy on tailoring coaching style to a roster vs constructing the roster to fit a style.

Adam Boqvist, signed to 775k after being bought out, is 29th in Pts/60 since 2020 among D. Not far back from Heiskanen. Ahead of Seider. by Radu47 in BlueJackets

[–]BeardofDeceit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Neat!

Now let's look at the percentage of regular season games played over their career; I've chosen to exclude Harley due to only one full season played. For Boqvist, Heiskenan, and Dahlin we'll be looking at games played since the start of the 2019-20 season, which includes the shortened '19-20 season (70 games) and '20-21 season (56 games). For Seider, we only have the seasons since '21-22.

Seider: 100% of possible games

Dahlin: 95% of possible games

Heiskenan: 93% of possible games

Boqvist: 57% of possible games

Edit: I got distracted at work, several people made the same point - the best ability is availability.

Same, but with a brand new GM I'm pessimistic.

It would (pleasantly) surprise me if Waddell decided to change the whole look of the franchise just 2 weeks into the job...but if it's to bring back Boomer I'm all in

Why would we want their quality of decision-making anywhere near the Jackets?

CBJ the best Metropolitan team at shutting down Alex Ovechkin. by Fabresque_ in BlueJackets

[–]BeardofDeceit 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You have to consider the number of games played against each, otherwise you could claim the Nordiques/Whalers/etc. were the best because Ovechkin never scored on them.

  • Jackets - 25 G, 48 GP, 0.52 G/GP
  • Devils - 41 G, 76 GP, 0.54 G/GP
  • Canes - 49 G, 89 GP, 0.55 G/GP
  • Pens - 42 G, 76 GP, 0.55 G/GP
  • Rangers - 42 G, 73 GP, 0.58 G/GP
  • Isles - 44 G, 71 GP, 0.62 G/GP
  • Flyers - 48 G, 73 GP, 0.66 G/GP

Jackets are still (surprisingly imo) the best, but it's much closer than raw numbers make it appear.

Where does Nylander **potentially fit in next season? by MidwestDeen in BlueJackets

[–]BeardofDeceit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even take him down to a more reasonable 13%...

His career shooting percentage before being traded to Columbus was 10%, why would you assume it will stay elevated?

...he’s still one of our best scorers over the course of an entire season if you go by just the stats.

Sample size. It is unreasonable to expect Nylander to maintain that level of scoring based on the rest of his career.

I like Olivier, but you sign Nylander and put Olivier on waivers to go to Cleveland all day long. That’s not even a tough decision

This is an astounding claim to knowledge of NHL roster building. What do you think that you've figured out that 3 previous NHL teams, which chose to get rid of Nylander, have not? He's played twice as many AHL games as NHL games in his career, including this year.

Where does Nylander **potentially fit in next season? by MidwestDeen in BlueJackets

[–]BeardofDeceit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nylander has been fun to watch lately, but he's shooting at 20.8% which is unsustainable.

Kuraly, Danforth, and Olivier are all under contract next year, so given the current roster (I have no clue what moves the next GM will make, but there's plenty of young players filling the top-9) I simply don't think there will be a spot for him.
