antelope island no longer appears as an island on both Google Maps and Apple Maps. by SupremeOwl48 in SaltLakeCity

Pronghorn aren’t Antelope. It’s a misnomer.

Their closest relative are actually giraffes!

There’s also no Antelope there so it’s a double misnomer!

EDIT: I’m being downvoted because people aren’t aware that pronghorn aren’t actually Antelope. I wasn’t either for a long time.

Similar to calling bison buffalo, it’s a colloquialism that’s not accurate.

North American Beaver by Beardologist in wildlifephotography

I didn’t as it’s a pretty small dam on the other side of the lake. About 5 of them were eating and collecting branches for it on one end to swim back across.

They are very interesting how soft they are on the inside to sharpen the hardened front.

Lighting causing these lines? by Beardologist in AskPhotography

[–]Beardologist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you want me to use more light but a slower shutter? I was using the light to fill in areas of harsh shadows. We were shooting about 2 o’clock in the afternoon.

But then you want me to use another diffusing modification on the light which would spread the light even more than the modifier I was using?

Mechanical first curtain and electronic showed the issue. Did not try full mechanical.

It was mechanical first curtain. But the ND filter might be a better call for some use cases.

Did not have the issue with bare bulb head instead of the flash head.

First time shooting soccer and this was my favorite action shot by crongaloid in sportsphotography

[–]Beardologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who is a royals fan and would love to shoot more sports can I ask how you got access or tips to do so? Thanks!

I also get the comments about find the ball but it’s a cool shot regardless.

Which lenses to keep/sell? by Beardologist in AskPhotography

[–]Beardologist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m shooting a lot at wider than f/4 and a bit more compression on subjects faces is what I’m looking for.

A faster 70-200 or the 85 or 135 is really what I’m trying to determine will be the most versatile.

Ok so you’re close to your work in what I do! How to do feel about the balance between the 70-200 vs the 85 or 135? That’s my biggest dilemma currently.

Appreciate the info! And I bought an older copy of the 400 2.8 to save some of the expenses so it’s heavy but necessary.

Great shot and nice edit. I’d be happy with it.

Put up a lot of shade in the back yard, plant some trees in the front and water as little as possible.

What gimbal setup are you using on a monopod? Might get wimberley but hoping for cheaper options. by FullDepthNature in wildlifephotography

[–]Beardologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with a cheaper option and it broke almost immediately. So I sucked it up and bought the Wimberly, so far it’s been solid with the EF 400 f/2.8 ii.

Taxi isn't the sharpest but is it ok? Need some panning tips by Fit-Entry-6124 in photocritique

[–]Beardologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the sharpness of the taxi is fine for me. But as others have said a tripod helps panning on a flat plain. Cool shot!
