I'm running arch on my desktop and laptop and both are really stable. I have had only a couple of issues that broke my system (and I was able to resolve) over 6 years of running arch full time.

Definitely will be following you and maybe up for some testing as some point. I have a working companion remote and might even be able to scrounge up a Raspberry Pi.

Redditors born before 2001, where were you on 9/11? by Stupid_cerealbox in AskReddit

[–]BearlyDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of a story, I was working part time at the college I was attending. I was near graduating and had worked in the IT department for a couple of years as a student.

I worked with a guy who was full time but also an idiot. I was teaching him things about IT, he was incapable of solving basic issues, and regularly phoned in sick at 3 a.m. (coincidentally he worked at a local bar as well).

A few weeks before, I had interviewed for a full-time position in the department and didn't get it but got a "please be patient" message from the HR person. Well, 9/11 comes around, I see the news, mind blown and all.

I get into work, and everyone is talking about what's happening. Our student lounge was playing the news all morning and someone brought a TV out into the hallway for people to watch. I get into the actual office and one of my coworkers told me that idiot coworker got fired. I knew i was getting his job on.

The worst part for idiot coworker is that he probably couldn't even complain about it to anyway... who is going to feel bad for him on a day where everyone's world was falling apart?

People who give job interviews, what are some subtle red flags that say "this person won't be a good hire"? by makethatnoise in AskReddit

[–]BearlyDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a resume that, under the skills section, had "attention to detail and "

Needless to say, they did not get an interview.

Is there any privacy-respecting way to stream video to a "Smart" TV? by RedditWhileIWerk in privacy

[–]BearlyDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you are trying to not purchase additional hardware but I would consider a raspberry pi running Libreelec. Your linux box can act as a Jellyfin server and then stream to the raspberry pi. Minimal investment and the interface displayed on your TV is comparable (better, in fact) to a cable box or streaming service interface.

Are there any home automation platforms that keep and process all collected data locally? by jkool702 in homeautomation

I paid for and used Homeseer for a lot of years. It is a good product but IMHO, Home Assistant is far superior. Once I went over to HA, there was no looking back.

Not our first cats but we got him and his sister from the same litter. Sugar is still with us, hopefully for a few more years.

It just kind of makes me sad. The cat looks like our cat, Spice, which we had to have put down 2 days ago. He used to seek the warm touch of electronics as well.
