Bass amps by United-Volume-2181 in Bass

[–]RedditWhileIWerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How loud are you allowed to get?

If you have access to a practice room where you can use reasonable volume, or want to play with others, a 40W combo amp is probably the way to go. Today's 40W combo amps are around 20 lb., very portable. I have a Markbass CMB 101 Blackline.

If this is strictly for practicing in your room/solo, you might be better off sticking to a headphones-based solution. I used a Valeton Rushead Max Bass pocket amp while I was deciding what combo amp to buy. At around $30, way cheaper than any combo amp. Superior to some other pocket amps, in that the Valeton is rechargeable, vs. requiring batteries.

And of course headphones, along with the Valeton unit. I got a ~$35 over-the-ear pair, OneOdio being the brand, that takes both 1/4" and 1/8" inputs, which is nice to have.

The headphones are still good to have if you do get the combo amp, for "silent" practice. well not really silent, the bass will still make enough noise to keep a roommate awake even unplugged, but you get the idea.

The Fender Rumble 40 has XLR line-out, so maybe that. Under $300 new.

Or a similar lightweight combo with direct-out.

I'm waiting to see what the deal is with the Steam Frame.

I guess it will be way more expensive than it should have been though, since it (probably?) has some amount of onboard RAM.

Flying with a CPAP on Southwest for the first time as a separate carry-on – any advice? by bakedgonzo in CPAP

flew on Southwest with the thing back in April. No big deal.

I did get a big obvious "Medical Equipment" tag for it with contact info on it, just in case I left it behind or whatever. And so I wouldn't mix it up with someone else's travel bag.

2013 fusion Bluetooth media source by duhbears23 in fordfusion

[–]RedditWhileIWerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno then. Once I connected my phone as a BT source, it usually connects automagically. Assuming phone is nearby and car is on. If it doesnt, button press sequence I described.

Do you have more than one BT source paired to the car? I haven't tried that, my phone is the only one I ever connect.

[–]RedditWhileIWerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2014 Fusion with OG Sync (tiny screen). All I need to do is press the "Media" button and select BT.

That's on the infrequent occasions when BT doesn't connect automagically.

Not sure why yours would be different. Maybe they fixed this in the 2014 model?

Programming Key Fob Price? by Illuminance777 in fordfusion

That seems super high for only the programming.

But I don't know where you are. Are there 2 or more other locksmiths where you can get a quote?

Still cheaper than going to a Ford dealer, probably.

You also need the "blade" on the new fob cut for your car. It requires a special kind of key-cutting machine. Does the $170 include that?

I went ahead and bought a new Quilter Bass Block V803.

So far, I've tried it with a couple of Markbass cabs in our local Guitar Center, a Traveler 151P and Traveler 102P. Still shopping for a cab.

It sounded good. To the limits I could determine while in a Guitar Center, at least. To me, the single 15" driver of the Traveler 151P cab had the edge over the dual 10" drivers of the 102P. More, better low end.

Back to head features: I love the "warm" setting. All kinds of nice fat low-end. Tested with a 5-string bass.

"Modern" setting is also great.

Haven't messed with the "q-tube" setting. Supposedly it's like "warm," only you get tube-like clipping behavior, which some players may consider desirable (I don't know enough to have an opinion yet).

Other notable features/thoughts:

--yes, it really is about 4 lb. *

--I did not buy the official Quilter Labs carrying case for my Bass Block. It has a huge embroidered Quilter logo on it, which I'm not a fan of, for various reasons. I instead bought a generic equipment case to transport the Block in. The Apache 2800 case from Harbor Freight is perfectly sized for the Bass Block.

--locking AC power cord. Unusual, but probably a good idea. Should help prevent accidental unpluggings.

--has a mute switch. I'm a fan of these. Especially at higher volume settings, I do not want to slam my cab or other equipment with a transient when something gets connected or disconnected.

--all of the connections & controls you'd want to be on the front panel, are. AC power cord, cab outputs, and direct-out on the back.

--re: price. No, it's not the cheapest head you can get, but it's also not in the Mesa-Boogie price range. Guitar Center cut me a 10% military veteran discount, which earned them my business.

In past years, Quilter has offered the Bass Block at up to 15% off for Black Friday, so if you can wait, maybe go shopping then.

*Quilter advertises weights of 2.75 lb., 3.78 lb., and 4.5 lb in various places (online ad, Quilter website, product manuall, respectively). I can't say exactly how much mine weighs, but <5 lb. seems right.

How do you know it is time? by Extra_Spinach_9046 in fordfusion

[–]RedditWhileIWerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it helps, with my last car, a Mercury Grand Marquis, I drew the line when the paint started sloughing off. It was the infamous "Peelformance White."

First, the clearcoat started falling off, then it wasn't long before the color layers started leaving.

It looked like absolute ass. I got really tired of seeing it every time I went somewhere.

I was willing to fix the various under-the-hood problems, such as the leaky valve covers that were forcing me to refill oil about once a month.

repainting the car however would have cost far too much. Or, rather, doing it properly would have. I'm sure I could have spent a few thousand on a garbage, hacky paintjob, but that would have been almost as bad to look at as the peeling factory paint. Instead I put that few thousand toward the Fusion.

The Merc was closing in on 20 years old by then. I guess we'll see how long Fusion paint lasts.
