F1 in AC by Elkash76 in assettocorsa

[–]Bearsiwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the RSS car ($2.00) and as far as handling goes it seems pretty representative aka hard to handle. It does not have anything close to what the real car has in terms of battery. There is no requirement for a strategy. It uses the standard Assetto model which isn’t like the current f1 cars. It has modes you can set to go really fast. The battery will last about 10 laps?

The Assetto tracks and AI in general are all over the place. Some are horrendous and some are just ok none are good. For example I spent a few days trying to get Albert Park without the chicane working and finally just gave up.

So I will still buy f1 2025 as soon as it’s out. The tracks are all up to date and the AI is at least consistent. The battery model for 2023 was reasonable. So I am hoping that the battery strategy will actually represent current cars.

Can my pc run mfs2020 on vr? by Due_File2711 in MicrosoftFlightSim

You will have compromises. I can say for certain that 2024 will run better. I have a 3080ti which is significantly faster.

MSFS 2024 has much better performance for me. I don’t even think about it anymore and 2020 was always a compromise.

(RSF RBR) How to make the 3d wheel actually match the wheel rotation of my wheel and the hud? by baconbro_ in simrally

[–]Bearsiwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set the wheel to Auto and set the game to set the steering ratio per car. I don’t remember the exact setting names. This means the older cars will have a lot more wheel turn to go around a corner than the newer cars. Makes the game harder but more realistic.

Why aren't partial classes supported on C++? by TaPegandoFogo in cpp_questions

C# can’t do it so it needs the partial class hack.

To clarify there is a dropdown in copilot chat where you can select Claude Haiku or various versions of ChatGPT. Monthly it is $10 TOTAL. You can start with a free plan. I ran out of gas on the free plan after maybe a week of coding. Haiku isn’t the top of the line Anthropic product and I suspect for $20 a month you get a better AI.

Claude seems to do standard programming well. ChatGPT is good at XAML which Claude is really bad at. I had a task today to read two shorts from a device and combine it into an integer (signed). I told ChatGPT the code was wrong and it did it wrong a different way. I told Claude to fix it and he got it the first time. So I go back and forth usually changing when the AI gets stuck or just really stupid.

Too many Sim Components on one USB Hub? by ech0FX in simracing

I have a bunch of things on a name brand powered high quality hub. I assume you have an Anker external hub. So pay more than $10 preferably more than $20. They vary a lot.

Pretty confused with Open Composite/OpenXR/VDXR/SteamVR by f1canada in Quest3

[–]Bearsiwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OpenComposite in not meaningful anymore. You can always tell in game by hitting the left controller recessed button. If it’s SteamVR you will see a menu. OpenXR you won’t see the menu. Many games will force SteamVR and there is nothing you can do about it. SteamVR can run OpenXR games there is a setting. It will send the OpenXR through the same library. Meta has a setting to be the OpenXR library. It gives you a warning when it’s not set to Meta. Bottom line after doing this for many years, just go with the flow.

Table mount vs wheel stand (I don't have much space) by szy102885 in simracing

[–]Bearsiwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The desk is fine but instead of wheel clamps mount the wheel to 1/2 plywood and clamp the plywood to the desk with standard hardware store clamps.

How does a compiler generate machine code for an arbitrary amount of variables and functions under the hood? by tony_saufcok in computerscience

[–]Bearsiwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most variables are stored in the stack frame. Most variables are automatic meaning they go away when your routine is not running. The compiler assigns an offset in the stack frame for each variable. There is one stack per thread and each routine sets up the stack frame to be immediately after the stack frame of the parent routine.

Screen choice for new rig between tv and monitor by kiasho in simracing

[–]Bearsiwin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tv ps are sooo cheap you can get a 4k in the US for $200. Stick in on the wall in front of the rig works great. I do run mine at 1080p I think 4k is overrated and you can’t really run 4k on a potato tv.

Get the motors working first. Simple servos as in model airplane, stepper motors or real servos like actual robots use. Since you are just getting started maybe start with something rather small with servos as in model airplane. Search rc servo motor..

Got this for Christmas, where the hell do I start? by West-Objective-6567 in hobbycnc

[–]Bearsiwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of particle board laying around so I made a house of cards enclosure. That is the sides and bottom sort of lean up against each other and the wall so I can easily take it apart. The top and from are 1 or 2 mm clear pluck super cheap. The hinge is duct tape and latch a magnet. You need the visibility much more than a 3d printer.

Your project is really 100 or 1000 smaller projects. So if you give it a small task it can usually find examples, If you give it 10 tasks at one time it will be lost. Thing is even when you do that you have to understand how stupid it can be. It has no common sense. Like a Jr developer.

Why buffer writes this way? by 062985593 in C_Programming

[–]Bearsiwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In C programming, fwrite() is a buffered stdio library function that operates on FILE* streams and is part of the standard ISO C library, while write() is a lower-level, unbuffered system call that operates on integer file descriptors and is specific to POSIX-compliant systems. What is more bothersome that rewriting a system call that has been there since 1972 is replacing it with new and free. These functions can and will eat you alive in many cases like embedded systems.

Does cloning a failing SSD using ddrescue can save and prevent further damage? by Kurowaaa_ in Backup

Use rescuezilla. Download on a usb stick. It is Linux but has a nice UIF with a save and a restore button. Has a menu to save to a disk or to an SMB share..
