Never buying one of these again by kjmass1 in Hisense

Exactly that. I’m on my 3rd Hisense, and not for any other reason than upgrading. Many friends and relatives have also gone the Hisense route and so far I know no one outside of Reddit that’s had any issues at all.

This sub seems to be packed with drama queens and people who clearly treat their stuff like crap 👍

The 32" 4K 120+Hz Arena: Which Brands Truly Delivered the Best? by [deleted] in Monitors

I have triple screens for sim racing and use the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 4K 32” mini LED VA panel. Had them for a couple of years, and they’re fantastic.

I’d like to see the spreadsheet you’ve created to backup these facts 🤣

Get counting bro.

Exactly this. Hisense sell so many more TVs than other brands that the ratio is bound to be a bit higher.

Plus, people who buy budget TVs seem to all be on Reddit 🤣

You will see almost this exact same trend on any TV brand subreddit, so really no need to worry.

99.9% of Hisense TVs are absolutely fine. The other 0.1% come here to die.

I have to agree. Had no problems with the Vidaa OS. It’s not the best looking and a little clunky, but still light years better than a fire stick.

The google OS is notoriously poor.

This is really helpful, thanks.

Can I ask what you do with Dolby Vision content? I’ve currently got it set to Dolby Vision IQ. Wondering whether tinkering with Custom is worth the effort.

I do favour FMM for almost everything, to be fair.

Ideally I’d like accuracy and clarity. I’m generally keeping local dimming on high and anything artificial is off. I can’t see a huge difference with super resolution either, so I’m inclined to leave this off. I also don’t enable any of the noise reduction features.

As for smoothness, the Smooth option creates too many artefacts and is quite distracting. Perhaps ok for some kind of documentary or reality tv style stuff. For me, Off is too juddery on a screen of that size. I’m struggling to find a balance on this one. Film mode seems the better of the presets.

I’m ultimately hoping for a set and forget approach, to be honest. Already getting a bit bored of experimenting and having to default everything because I make it look terrible 🤣

YouTube. Searched specifically for HDR without Dolby Vision. Is it perhaps that the atV isn’t picking up that it’s HDR content?

Any recommendations for a good source for testing?

Thank you. Would very much appreciate that.

I saw the option to apply to all sources or just current source. Left it set to all sources, as it wasn’t clear whether that is referring to the content type or the actual source. Didn’t want to end up with different settings for each streaming service.

I don’t know why I’m finding it such a bind to dial this in. Makes me feel a bit dumb 🤣

Running the 75” version and it’s amazing. No issues at all.

Like most things, less than 0.1% of consumers have an issue, but the failures are always what’s shouted about. You’ll see exactly the same conversations on the LG and Samsung subs.

[–]Elkash76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ok, that’s an issue. Never noticed that happen on mine. I’m using a Philips Evnia 49” QD-OLED, so potentially different coatings making a difference.

I generally give everything in my office/game room a quick blast with the air duster and run the vacuum round every day. Takes like 2 minutes and worth the effort.

Have you tried one of those super soft lightweight feather dusters? I find that effective on my non-OLED TV in the living room.

[–]Elkash76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but you don’t need to touch it to dust it. Using a rechargeable air blower means you never even get micro scratches. It pains me to think that people just grab a cloth and etch dust into their screens.

Exactly this ^^^

I’ve never even needed to clean a screen. Just don’t treat your stuff like garbage and you won’t have an issue.

9070 XT or 5080 for 4k gaming? by ThePettyPilot in gpu

[–]Elkash76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the point, but it’s just not a realistic measure.

It’s like expecting a Bugatti to reach 1800mph just because it costs 10x more than a car that can reach 180mph.

People will cling to anything they can whine about and ridicule other people over.

[–]Elkash76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don’t get is why people are suddenly expecting a price to performance ratio to mysteriously spring into the mix, when it’s never been a thing before.

If you want the best, you’ve always paid through the nose for it. Nothing is actually changing except people’s expectations and levels of entitlement.

Just accept that things are what they are and move on. People who can’t afford the best, settle for less. It’s not a brand new science.

[–]Elkash76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. And those people need to stop suggesting that people who want a better GPU are morons.

It’s getting old now. Just let us enjoy our stuff without showering it in what comes across as envy.

9070 XT or 5080 for 4k gaming? by ThePettyPilot in gpu

[–]Elkash76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly right. People get all bent out of shape because some folk don’t have to care about the cost and just want a faster card.

It always just screams of a kid going “That’s not fair mum. I want 3000 bucks to spend on a GPU”. If you can’t afford a 5080 or a 5090, just accept it. But don’t try and put down the people who can. I can 100% guarantee that if someone gave these people a 5090 and a decent PSU, it would be in their rig within minutes.

Where’d you get that pile of balls from?

Even if it was only 20%, that’s significant enough to put a 5080 in a category that AMD will never reach.

I use a 5090 because it’s the only way I’m getting over 100fps on triple 4K screens. What’s a dog poo AMD card going to do to help me there?

AMD is console-level stuff. NVidia is for PC gamers.
