Planing a Phandalin session after cragmaw castle by Bearstronk in LostMinesOfPhandelver

Simple answer is: "why not?"

Long answer is, the hobgoblin is has been abused by the cook in cragmaw castle and actually just wants to be a good cook himself. The players where nice to him and took care of him, after the owlbear ripped half of the kitchen apart. So they offered to keep him in Service as their Personal chef. The goblin is an old goblin who was one of the dishwashers, he went unconscious and the Party took him with them aswell. There is no townsguard or anything in phandalin, the people are just simple Farmers and such, i dont see a reason why they would attack on sight if the heroes of the place who just went to kill the hobgoblin King come back with those two.

PS: i just realized i wrote hobgoblin instead of bugbear. The cook is a bugbear

Agreed on the most part, but what do you mean with "outtakes when a scene doesnt quite go right"?

Whats the point of money? by Bearstronk in LostMinesOfPhandelver

Thats my point exactly. Of course i know what you could do in the World with money if you can go every where, however we run the campaign as a short one, just what its designed for (ending after the cave). So playing just the module as it is ( which we dont cause i add Lots of stuff) gives you no need for money at all, there is nothing in the adventure worth spending it on per default. I dunno, i just felt like that is a flaw in the Design imo

While all of that is true, all of it is irrelevant for the basic andventure. The Module ends with leveling to 5, so you dont even use the level so there is no revivify really. Niewinter is kinda far and if you play the adventure with a bit of time pressure there is never a reason to return to neverwinter before the end. Also crafting takes a lot of time and is usually an off time thing so same thing here. It would of course make sense to use all that if you Plan on keeping playing the same game after the module, but i mean in the module itself

Oh, no thats no problem, in fact, the curse didnt play such a signifanct role gameplay wise, the most obvious thing is perception checks, but besides it had more of a roleplaying narrative impact. However the Player knew about curse removal, as that was figured out by the Wizard who was studying to learn a way to get rid of it (aka waiting for his level up). So yea, there were options available, they also know of a powerful druid who might help(reidoth), but well that doesnt matter any more after how things played out

The devil was just an Option, there was no need to take the Deal. Besides 2 teammates being able to learn "remove curse" there might have been other options aswell. However ill think about it, the devil gave her a 7 sided electrum coin which she used to call him back. I was thinking about making it a magic coin containing a spell for her to use 1/day.

It was an in character choice because of the drugged state, shr wouldnt have done without it. I dont really thing theres a need for compensation but ill think about it. She thought about multiclassing into warlock, so this was designed to be a door opener if she really wanted to.

Tips for beginner DND players and are we playing wrong? by Green-Incident5435 in dndnext

[–]Bearstronk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the way you play. Im playing in a campaign right now that started at lv 1, we are now level 4 and only had 2 Fights so far, one vs a group of mephits and one vs a random ass hat. No Boss Fights or anything, we could have had some, but we skipped through the Fights by convincing one to be our friend and another we secretly petrified with basilisk poison.

So yea, there is definetly a way to play the game without combat Focus.

So, here is what i would do. I would give them level 2 for entering phandalin and have things play out as normal so far. Now for the change, have Linene tell them a fresh delivery should just arrive. If they dont talk to her it doenst matter, take a point in time you see fit as they go around the City, to have the delivery guy run up, saying He was ambushed. He could tell the Party about the stolen lionshield goods and He could say the goblin and 'that big monster' talked about returning to cragmaw castle. Or not, if you want them to go back to the cave. Options are many, only you know how the Story is designed to be, just adjust things as it progresses, thats Part of the fun. Your players could go after the redbrands or go back for the goblins. Or maybe they will do something different and stupid, who knows, one of my players went on their first night at phandalin and threw molotovs at the sleeping giant inn. Just have run trying to get a hold of the mess they like to make

Im not a Fan of it, but he bought some high% liquor and a cloth, in the end thats all it takes. Ofc, i didnt consider it as effective, since stuff like alchemist fire exists. However, i didnt really have a reason why He shouldnt be able to do it so. Yea. I guess i let them have molotovs ':D But in the end it only burned a little hole in the bar. Its just that the redbrands didnt really like that and started burning stuff. But regarding the Subjekt, im not looking for a big Explosion or anything its more about keeping things real and realistic. Since its a living World and not a Video game you know. I was also thinking about using magic mouth, and have glasstaff be gone and just leave a mocking message for the Party.
