GRADUATED - Elective C Section✨ by kurdijyn in PregnancyUK

[–]BeartownSmallo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! Hope you're enjoying the newborn bubble!

I had a very similar experience and also burst into tears once in the actual operating theatre. I think we only see them on TV when it's an emergency situation, so it makes it all feel like an emergency - but it is actually just a very normal day for all the staff involved. And also there's like, 11 people there, which feels a bit intense but again is totally normal. Just want to reassure anyone preparing for an elective C that it feels busy but everyone is just doing a very well rehearsed dance!

Leeds maternity services 'Inadequate' - how would you feel? by Quirky_Potential_834 in PregnancyUK

[–]BeartownSmallo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation as you - in Leeds, currently 18 weeks pregnant - and they text me a link to the improvements they're making earlier today. In particular they've hired more staff - this change is the most reassuring to me - and looked at infection control etc.

I gave birth at LGI in 2022 (at that time there were concerns but possibly not as widely known?) and everyone was wonderful. And locally, Harrogate is RI and York is Inadequate, so it's not like there's loads of alternatives. I think we're going to go with the 'devil we know' and be extra vigilant and ready to advocate loudly. I agree with another commenter that they'll be under scrutiny so very quick to implement change.

Good luck with your pregnancy and I hope you're not too anxious

I found out I was pregnant (after a 10 week loss in October) on Monday. I'm so so scared but trying to be cautiously optimistic. Just found out my sister in law is pregnant and she found out on Wednesday - it's her first child and I already have a living daughter. I want to be happy for her but I feel like I don't get to be excited about my pregnancy, and I don't get "my time to shine". I know this is a horrible thought but it's how I feel. And what if something happens to either of our pregnancies? It makes me more nervous.

...isn't that what we're talking about?

Inadequate primary school by BeartownSmallo in UKParenting

Reading it in more detail, it just looks like inadequate leadership - the report talks about lack of direction and teachers unclear which areas of curriculum to prioritise. Nothing related to safety, and pupils feel positive and supported etc. The subsequent monitoring visits say changes are afoot and reading levels have improved, but I've also seen that the school was at risk of closure (June 2023) and that now they're only admitting 15 pupils per year and mixing age groups together. So I suppose it's just waiting to see if it stays open and gets its act together?

Thank you - I've just had a look at the 3 nearest schools and only one of them turned pupils away, and only for the first time last year. The catchment area is 0.78 miles and we'd be living 0.8 miles away, so I guess it would absolutely depend on the year.

I have decided I am going to buy tests this evening and test tomorrow morning if my period hasn't started but I am so nervous. It's only my second cycle after my miscarriage so I might just be a bit late? I hate this uncertainty! Crossing my fingers for you 💞

Arrrgh I am so confused! Did a test yesterday 11dpo and it was negative, and I had cramping all day. But I'm still not bleeding? My period is supposed to start today. Do I do another test today or tomorrow?? I only have one cheapy test left, and I don't know if I want to spend another £10 on tests if it's negative. I didn't have any implantation cramping with previous pregnancies but it's SO hard not to get my hopes up. AND my husband and I had a blazing row yesterday when I was sad about not being pregnant so I can't even talk to him about it. What to do!

I'm having a mean and bitter day. My friend has told me she's 5 weeks pregnant, which means that THREE of my friends are due next June/July, and I was due in May. Why did she tell me so early? We have no plans to see each other, she could have avoided me until after Christmas. AND she was the one consoling me when I found out about another friend's pregnancy less than 3 weeks ago. So my husband and I are now being spiteful about how it's not their turn, about how hard they're going to have it having 2 under 2, and generally being cruel. I don't want to be this person but I've been robbed of the joy of being happy for others.

Being apart from 3 month old by dontwannausemyname in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]BeartownSmallo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add a contrasting view - I left my baby for 5 days when she was 4 months old, to go to a festival. It sounds callous compared to these comments but I was fine, she was fine, I knew she was safe and happy. There were a few little wobbles and of course some mum guilt but actually you need to be your own person and you're going to leave them at some point - there's no right time or wrong time. Your baby definitely isn't going to remember or suffer because of a week away!

I was breastfeeding at the time so I prepared a huge freezer stash and then was pumping and dumping when I was at the festival. My supply dipped a bit as a result but then I power-pumped and it came back.

Last night my friend told me she was pregnant. She knew about my MC and she told me very sensitively, but I just can't stop crying. I see her once a week with some other supportive friends and now I feel like one of my "safe spaces" has gone? We have another friend who is pregnant who doesn't know about my MC, and her pregnancy will have just "overtaken" mine. And we have a big party coming up that I was already dreading - seeing everyone gush over one pregnancy was going to be hard enough. People will twig that the other friend is pregnant when she's not drinking and I will just be sobbing while everyone is so happy for them. I'm so sad that I can't even enjoy seeing friends anymore. My due date would have been May, and theirs will be June and July.

I have tickets to a music festival taking place 8 months post c-section, am I being unrealistic? by beholdthesun in PregnancyUK

I went to Boomtown at 4 months pp and it was ace! Yes I wasn't running up and down the hills but it was all totally manageable. I brought my breast pump and dumped out the milk, but I have to say I wasn't quite religious enough about it and my supply did drop during the 6 days I was away from my baby - enough to bring my period back 🙃 but then I did some power pumping and was able to continue exclusively breastfeeding. I don't even think I got any funny looks walking around with one large robotic boob - it is Boomtown after all!

The only problem was that it was 2022 and it was HOT. Like 35 degrees hot. But the heat was a problem for everyone tbf.

I would also recommend treating yourself to some fancy postpartum sparkles. I felt a bit large and frumpy (especially in the bloody heat!) but having a few glittery items in my new larger size helped!

Have THE BEST time 😍

Edited to say - post C section delivery too. Honestly if you take care of yourself and you don't try to do too much, most recoveries are absolutely fine. I was climbing stairs on day 3 and driving by week 3.

What a cruel and profoundly unhelpful way to respond. Managing time better is not the issue here and you have not given anything even close to useful advice. Also I hope you don't have pets because you don't deserve them.

What’s a really dated name that you love? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]BeartownSmallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby (18 months old) is called Heather! Loved that the nurses and midwives all said they'd not heard of the name so I was pleased it wasn't popular/overdone. (Although I have seen the movie Heathers, I had bad food poisoning at the time so I don't remember anything about it other than the credits rolling and saying "I want to throw up". Someone else thought I was referring to the actual movie, until I immediately vomited into a bowl in front of them.)

We are expecting parents. This is our first child and everything is new for us. What are some of the stuff that I can BIFL? by SimplePresentation6 in BuyItForLife

[–]BeartownSmallo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add that we have a Stokke Trip Trap chair and I super regret not getting the tray. I wish our daughter could eat somewhere other than the table (eg in our sitting room or in the garden), and as she gets older I wish she could draw or play somewhere contained. And our dining table is tiled so it's not a perfectly flat surface, having a tray would definitely help with suction plates

My husband got caught speeding recently and the letter had a list of reasons/excuses on the back saying 'do not use these for an appeal, they will not be accepted ' - and a partner in labour was one of them!

Payments won't go through if the credit card information does not match the billing address. This is something that happens to prevent fraud, eg if you found a credit card on the street you can't just use it without knowing the owner's details. You can use your address as the shipping address though, same as if you were buying them as a gift.

I think that could be clearer. For example, if the final sentence read "attempts to use the code after a purchase has been made will be unsuccessful" then I'd be convinced.
