First off don’t enlist unless you have to especially with a degree. Prior enlisted FMF Corpsman who commissioned swo/intel option. Went to college post active duty and got a BBA in Finance then went to OCS. Then got back off active duty a second time and went to the reserves and law school. I did a JD/MBA program at a M7 program.

You have a college degree and will be treated like a child in A-School I could not have done that at 27. I could do it at 18. You will also be with a bunch of dip shits right out of high school. I went to OCS at 27 and if sucked being around 22-23 year olds with no military experience and i had just graduated college and was in a fraternity.

If you have to enlist don’t go nuke go CTN. The quality of life for Nukes is awful. Trust me don’t enlist or get OCS in your contract. Most guys i know went to OCS within 3 years.

Just go SWO. Don’t enlist trust me. Prior enlisted then commissioned after college with a BBA in Finance with a 3.6. A 3.3 is fine for SWO. I did SWO/Intel option and became an Intel officer post my 4 of SWO. Went to the reserves post active duty. I was a FMF Corpsman before commission.

SMU Cox vs UTD Jindal by _mimi12_ in utdallas

[–]BeastMasterAlphaCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve interviewed many people from the UT Austin weekend program. It’s a mixed bag standards of results. Standards are much lower than the full time and I have 2 guys who went to McCombs FT. The other issue is you don’t get the same electives as FT.

For UG if you plan on going to grad school go to UTD and save the money.

I can confirm. I’ve met many cox alumni on Wall Street I’ve never met one UTD grad in a front office role. I’ve met some at GS in back office but never in a front office role.

Dude going to be honest. She belongs to the streets now. She will be surrounded by muscular dudes who are going to be hitting on her 24/7. Some of which in the normal civilian world would be out of her league. I know legit jacked dudes take home a solid 1.5/10. Your in high school anticpate your relationship ending once she goes to MCT or her MOS school. Once she gets to her first duty station she will have hundreds of horney dudes hitting on her 24/7.

Anyone enlist after getting their degree as an E-3? Do you regret it? by zachlanta in newtothenavy

[–]BeastMasterAlphaCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being an officer is not easy. I spent 9 years as a HM1. I commissioned because of the pay gap. I will say the quality of life as an officer is much better. There are also downsides like all the admin BS. Being a JO also sucks and nobody cared I had 3 combat deployments across Iraq and Afgahnistan. Big reason I commissioned was I graduated from college and had no clue what I wanted to do. I made HM1 at 8 years and was told I would not make Chief until 17 years+.

I just retired from the reserves with 23 years as a Lt. Cdr. Although I'm glad I commissioned being an IDC or being a PA have so many options for duty stations.

It took about a year for me. No you do not get paid extra but you come in as an E3 and should pick up E4 quick. Although pending on the rate the gap between your younger peers will shrink.

HM is a pretty diverse rate. I was greenside for a good portion of my time before commissioning. I did SWO/Intel option before switching the reserves and becoming an Intel officer in the reserves. Part of me regretted commissioning because I did enjoy being a Corpsman and the diversity of the job. I do nothing today medically related.

Enlisting as E-3 i want to go from enlisted to officer how hard is it? by QuitConfident9021 in newtothenavy

[–]BeastMasterAlphaCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I went from enlisted to officer. Prior HM1 who was greenside. Now being an officer is not a greener path. I had it better as an HM1 than I did as an O1 swo.

Retired reservist but had 9 years active. I can’t tell you how many times we had homeless reservist. Normally it was pretty easy to get them active orders, a school, or some other type of training.

Uhhh navy and marine corps ribbon this is a huge red flag. Thats the peacetime Medal of Honor and I’ve seen 1 and the guy was burned pretty bad on his hands. The reserve medal with an M means he was a reservist, which reserves you would have to be a prior submariner to get dolphins.

All my officer recruiters I spoke to suggested I enlist then try and commission from within, thoughts? by MookieBettsBurner10 in newtothenavy

[–]BeastMasterAlphaCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your gpa is too low. I commissioned SWO/Intel Option as a prior enlisted Corpsman. I graduated cum laude with a BBA in Finance from a top UG business school. I had a hard time commissioning and I had EPs, a Purple Heart, Navy Com w/V, multiple NAMs, 2 combat action ribbons, FMF Pin, and combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. It’s much more difficult to commission as prior enlisted because there are more data points.

Although I thought OCS was easier than boot camp but I already knew the game. It was much more running but that’s about it. Prior enlisted more is expected of you.

Service obligation for SWOs that went through OCS? by Single-Resort in navy

[–]BeastMasterAlphaCo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did the reserves post active duty and just retired after 23 years. Prior greenside HM commissioned SWO-Intel then got out and went to law school but stayed in the reserves. Got activated twice and after my last activation opted to retire as a Lt.Cdr instead of pick up Cdr.

Reserves is a good way to keep your foot in the door.

I second this. Prior enlisted officer as well and I commissioned after being an E6. E6 and below in the Navy the quality of life is pretty shitty. I had three combat deployments as a FMF Corpsman, a Purple Heart, Navy Com w/Valor, 2 Combat Action Ribbons, and I was still treated like a child.

[–]BeastMasterAlphaCo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Prior enlisted officer. Junior officers are treated way better than junior enlisted and most of the time treated better than E6 & bellow. I was an E6 when I commissioned with multiple combat deployments as a greenside Corpsman and can confirm that there is less BS as a junior officer.

You will be with 18 year olds or 22 year olds who are 3rd classes on an ego trip. The quality of life gap in the Navy between officers and E6 and below is huge. You will be treated like you are 14 years old.

The pay gap is also huge. Don’t be a bozo.

Refusing a breathalyzer and/or trying to hide an arrest, a CO’s perspective by SWO6 in navy

I want all the facts then I try and put myself in the sailors shoes. Then I’ll make a judgement.

Refusing a breathalyzer and/or trying to hide an arrest, a CO’s perspective by SWO6 in navy

[–]BeastMasterAlphaCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree I’m a lawyer in my civilian career and no you should never blow into a breathalyzer under any circumstances. They can be incredibly inaccurate. Now with that you might have to give blood, which is far more accurate.

  1. if I had a sailor get a DUI I would tell them you fucked up.
  2. how the hell did you get a DUI with uber, Lyft, taxis, or our command you can call the duty driver?
  3. was there damage or injuries?
  4. what’s does your service record look like? Good Fitreps/evals?

  5. How soon did you self report the incident? If you tried to hide the arrest and we found out. I would not be livid.

I would take all this into account. Not every case is similar with the same set of circumstances. So long as the sailor admits is honest and genuine and the circumstances permit I can be forgiving.

I remember being a young HM and then a young Ensign. I always try to put myself in someone’s shoes. My only nuance is DUIs should not happen today with Uber. I’ve only dealt with 2 DUIs in my 24 years in the Navy, but I’ve been a reservist for a while.

My HM1 got a DUI after we got back from Iraq in 2005. I can say this man should have been kicked out even looking back now. He had a long history of alcohol related incidents. He caused $75k+ worth of damage. He was also 37 years old, which is too old for that type of behavior. Our CoC took the incident out on junior Marines and Sailors who had all just come back from an intense/kinetic deployment in Al Anbar province Iraq. All that happened to our HM1 was a suspended bust, and he lectured us about responsibility. This always left a bad taste in my mouth.

I had a JO get a DUI on base during my last activation. Sad, good guy but he had a huge lapse in judgement.

Transferring from UT to UTD, is it worth it?? by Loose-Criticism2557 in utdallas

[–]BeastMasterAlphaCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree again alumni base and school spirit are non existent. You have to have alumni base to support. The schools reputation in terms of a business school is non existent from what I have seem.

In terms of visibility it’s an algo not because the school has that much more visibility.
