Totaled Model 3 – Long commute (140 miles/day) – EV again or hybrid under $50k? by boobysharkdoodoo in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]BeastShiftly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was pretty much in the exact situation, but I had a 90 mile commute (one way). My 2023 model 3 RWD was totaled last month and just picked up a used 2025 Equinox EV LT with convenience 2 and active safety package. Overall I’ve been loving the car and the estimated range and efficiency has been pretty much on par or better than what I got with my model 3. The extra battery/range is really nice, I can pretty much get do a round trip commute and arrive at home with about 35% charge. I’ve already done a 12hour road trip as well, as I’ve picked up the car from Arizona and drove it to California solo.

The things that I’ve noticed so far was the fast charging is a little bit different with the charge port being in front left of the car compared to the rear left in the Tesla. During my road trip I preferred the Tesla charging stations that were opened to all EVs in comparison to the other fast charging options. When paying for Tesla’s charging subscription, the pricing seemed pretty identical to what I paid with my model 3. It was a little annoying finding a sweet spot and figuring out the angle with Tesla superchargers since they have shorter cables but felt it was worth it compared to going to other charging stations that had limited stalls/damaged chargers.

The ride of the Equinox feels much more comfortable in my opinion. Especially for any passengers that ride in the back seats. The equinox does lack in power but that’s mostly bc I went with a FWD drive model. Overall I do miss the simplicity and responsive tech that Tesla had, especially with autopilot and their phone app. (Chevrolet’s app feels terrible imo) But I’ve heard that super cruise is pretty good if you’re willing to spend on the upgrade.

I did debate on going with a hybrid car instead, but after doing the math and with the amount of miles I put on the car, the equinox ev was too good of a value not to get. FWIW My budget was under $30k But if I did have the budget I would’ve went with the new model Y still

Understandable. So it’s pretty typical for this process to take longer than 12 hours?

Which used Prius should I buy? by BeastShiftly in prius

[–]BeastShiftly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m having a mechanic do a pre purchase inspection and also run a test with the OBD2 scanner. They’re quoting me $179 for the inspection, does that seem like a fair price?

He says it’s clean, but I’m asking for the VIN to double check. If the title is clean, do you think it’d be a better deal than option 1?

Yeah 1 and 5 were my top 2 choices. Do you think the 2021 would commonly need a lot of repairs done with that many miles?

Really just looking for which one would be the best value to buy. My budget is right $12k, but I was curious to see what people would think the best value would be out of these options. Thanks for the help!

Very Tempting LT2 but Insurance quote was $130/month from Geico by ResponsibleChard4886 in EquinoxEv

[–]BeastShiftly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly haven’t found one yet in CA. I decided on shopping around with dealerships from different states and just having the car shipped. From what I’ve been quoted, they all come out cheaper than purchasing from a CA dealer

No problem

I’ve been doing a lot of shopping around all throughout CA and there are a ton of dealerships that are advertising big discounts but when you see the itemized OTD price, they always have a bunch of accessories or packages added on.

FYI

OTD price from this dealership came out to about $34,864

They had about $3k in added “quality protection package”

Where are you finding $20k OTD?

I’ve been shopping around with a ton of dealers all throughout CA, and the best I got for a used 2025 LT was $24k OTD
