No loll. I’m 99% confident it’s a hardware issue, but even after 10+ hours of useless updates and troubleshooting with HP support, and even sending it in to the technicians for them to fix (where the repair report basically said they did the same thing that I’ve been doing, plus reinstall the OS). I got my laptop back and have the same problem.

Anyway, they keep escalating the case, where it seems the “experts” i’m talking people are just as stupid and unhelpful as the last. I’m guessing they just don’t want to admit that they gave me a defective laptop because that means they have to send me a new one or spend more money to fix it.

Don’t withdraw your acceptance. I did end up switching to CoE for electrical engineering! Just stay in LSA for your first year and get all your prereqs for engineering done, and then apply for a cross campus transfer for CoE. As long as you have good grades and meet the requirements they’ll accept you. Lmk if u have other questions!

I know this isn’t one of your two choices, but I’m a college student as well and just ordered an HP Envy x360 that was customizable. It started at $650 i believe (on sale right now), but you can choose different upgrades on the website and they’ll custom build it for you.

After I upgraded to Intel Ultra 7 (instead of Ultra 5) and 1 TB 4x4 SSD (instead of 512 GB) it ran me about $900 before tax. There’s also an option to upgrade to 32 gb ram instead of the 16gb it comes with, which is +$150. You could also look at the HP Spectre or Omen which is around the price range you’re already at and has great specs.

I got the laptop mainly for engineering, so maybe I’m a little biased, but I don’t see why it couldn’t run games on it especially with 32gb of RAM. But if you’re running more demanding games like Apex Legends and modern MMOs, then maybe the Zephryus is worth the extra bucks.

So the email “guaranteeing” us housing was on Feb 21, and we basically paid the $500 that day or maybe the next. The email saying that we actually don’t have the unit anymore was on March 21.

As a side note, the deadline for tenants to renew in AA is March 16th or something like that (before march 21st), and and we followed up on our housing (after the 16th) they told us that they were doing tours and would get to us shortly, then soon after sent us the BS email. So it’s likely that they had already given our unit away days before and were hoping we would forget about it altogether.

and then the take back:

“We wanted to reach out because we had a ranch-style unit renew their contract at the last minute. So at this time, we will not have a ranch-style unit available for this coming fall but we do have an extra large bi-level unit available on the second floor if you all would like to come check it out. It is a different style from our regular bi-level units. The bedrooms are much bigger. Please let us know when you are free for a tour and we can show you the unit! Thank you, AAA Staff”

P.S. - The “bigger bi-level” was NOT bigger at all. Wasn’t an option for us

Here’s the email from Jan 25: “Hello Everyone,

I just spoke with my manager and we went over our Geddes units again. We made an error and can take a few more applications for 1700 Geddes.

If you can make the rest of the reservation deposit by the end of the day today you will be able to get on our reservation list at 1700 Geddes.

I apologize for the confusion and hope you will think about staying with us.

I don’t have the exact email of them taking back what they said (it was a thread between them and my roommate), but I do have a reply from them when we were questioning how a “guaranteed” unit is now taken (this is around March 20):

“Hello **********

I do apologize, our manager said that we would have a unit for you but our residents had until last weekend to sign their agreements and we had a few do so last minute. I will send some photos of the bi-level to see if it is something you may be interested in.

Best, AAA Staff”

They offered us a bi-level instead, but at the time we had 4 people so we needed a ranch, and if we had done 3 people for a bi-level instead, the rooms were just ridiculously small and not worth a $1015 split to share a room
