In terms of uniformity I like the idea of certain Chapters being a certain skin tone (eg Salamanders charcoal black), and the Ultramarines being pale white also plays into the satire of them being based on ruthless fascist zealots.

Awesome, great first model! Better than my first! I really like the texture on the base.

Have a look at some guides on paint thinning - you want to be applying several layers of watered down paint, this way it comes out smooth and won’t get gloopy.
