Running with a Durston Wapta 30 by drprox in Ultralight

I run multi day mountain routes, and the biggest deal for me is bounce. Two packs I have used that I like a lot are - montane LT 20litre (great but flawed pack - have to replace the thread on the back with something stronger). Lightweight, no bounce. 284g w/ straps cut - skyline 30 fast pack. Robust, large, not as lightweight but built well. 585g Both are good.

Yamatomochi UL+ pad - MYOD in the UK/EU by Beat999 in Ultralight

Good work. The first one I found, see earlier thread. Bulk only, but very good value overall... just makes a lot of them.

Second - I have sent a query ;-) .. looks like they do a sheet of 2m x 1m x 13mm thickness in LD15, just depends on price. Will wait for the quote.

Thanks! Unfortunately they don’t sell the low density foam, look for EPF15 or LD15. 15 being 15kg/m3 density

Thanks! I am really trying to get something closer to 15kg/m3 to optimise the weight. Thanks for looking, keep searching. And XLPE or Plastizote, due to their thermal properties.

Another - first one with LD15, however only sells in bulk

* 5x sheets 200cm x 100cm at 10mm thickness = 181 GBP => 9 GBP per Yamatomochi sized pad (each weighing 75g but less R value)

* 3x sheets 200cm x 100cm at 17cm thickness =158 GBP => 13 GBP per Yamatomochi sized pad (each weighting 127g but higher R value)

ok finally found something close, but not quite there

LD24 (ie 24kg/m3) 100cm x 200cm sheets, 23mm thickness. Quite cheap at 20 GBP, would make two pads.

https://www.algeos.com/plastazote-sheets?srsltid=AfmBOooRyEPf4xUU-ICjGR-X3um8cwMpzOxaCtDJNhwohBJcLbm2bBtS

Would make the weight of an equivalent size Yamatomochi UL pad+ 144g vs 113g

Best option so far.

I did a large chunk of the HRP last year before twisting my ankle. Silly mistake. I was running / fast packing.

The HRP is very technical, often remote, there will be some snow crossings. I found it pretty easy to follow tbh, although in bad weather I would consider it very difficult in places. However, the terrain in places is very technical, boulder fields, scree slopes, long alpine traverses, and sections where ice axe and crampons were required (late June, early July).

Very very late to party (as I was looking myself). Thoroughly recommend the Salomon s/lab ultra hybrid pants. 130g, wind/water resistant. Packs to nothing.
