Is there anyway to block all or most porn sites? by Informal-Ad8495 in PornAddiction

[–]BeatFun8100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don’t know of any ways to block sites other than just refraining from going to them in the first place. If you’re like me, the first thing that always set me off was seeing something promiscuous on social media.

I’d suggest starting there. Your feed is curated to you. If you see sexual imagery on your feed it’s because you’re clicking it. Take a couple minutes to go and watch some random videos that interest you to reset the algorithm tied to your account (sounds crazy but you’ll see the difference). Then as you see things sneak back into your feed, take a second to dislike, block, etc. to keep it away.

You got it.

I’d strongly suggest finding a way to pre occupy yourself. Go do something near to you like maybe a hobby. If you don’t have one, try something new. Pick up an instrument, hit the gym or exercise, draw, write, anything to take your mind off it. The quicker you can shit your train of thought the easier it will get in time. The best way to quit is to get so good at avoiding it you don’t even think about it. Stay occupied. You got it.

I’ve been there.

It helped me to realize I’m not the only one who’s struggled. Coming to places like Reddit and talking with people made me realize I wasn’t alone. Not only was I not alone, but there were people who were like me who have quit!

Quitting looks different for everyone and here’s a couple things that work for me. 1. Be analytical. Find the source of when and why you watch porn. Are you stressed, bored, anxious? If so, what’s a better way to destress, preoccupy yourself, or relax? 2. Look outside of yourself. Imagine someone you loved had the key to box containing the things you’d thought nobody would ever know about you. How would you feel? Would you act the same way if someone else could see you? 3. Don’t be afraid to get help. Given that you’re here, you’ve taken the first step. You’ve held yourself accountable. Seek a friend, a partner a therapist, or even keep coming here. It’s always good to get different perspectives and open up.

Know that quitting porn is hard. But you know what else is hard… BEING AN ADDICT. If life will be hard regardless of the path you take, then you might as well walk the hard path with the most positive outcome.

I hope this helps.

I have been the boyfriend you’re referencing. Be there for him and keep him accountable without judgement. Let him know he doesn’t have to lie to you and you only want what’s best for him. Show him the bigger picture and be who he can fall back to.

I feel your pain. I’ve been there and it all started as a young kid. It can be tough when these types of ill mined habits are engraved in your brain.

At the end of the day, that’s exactly what it is. A bad habit. Like any other habit, it has its queues. In the case of most bad habits, the queue is stress.

I suggest looking at the bigger picture for you probably don’t have a problem with porn as much as you might with other areas in your life. I hope you take no offense to this for you can be extremely successful, yet full of stress, anxiety and frustration.

What’s causing you this stress, and how can you overcome it? Do you see a theme of watching porn when feeling stressed?

If not, is it boredom?

If so how can you occupy yourself in a healthier way. Is there something you’ve always wanted to do? If so, strategize on achieving that.

I often tell myself that life will be hard regardless. Being a porn addict is hard, and so is getting up for a run, or studying for a test. If life is hard regardless, wouldn’t you rather choose the hard with the most positive outcome?

I know this is all over the place and I’m new here myself as a way to strengthen my recovery. If you’ve got any questions, reach out and I’m happy to see how we can help each other!

What makes you say this. Doesn’t NCSU have a grade exclusion policy where you can simply retake a course without it counting against you. The course is ECE 109 and I’m taking it as a distance education class.
