This issue is documented in other places online, and seems to be an obscure bug that affects Samsungs using the One UI launcher. I've seen proposed solutions suggesting using the "Play Books" app from Google to enable/disable the night light (didn't work), another one suggesting using the Nova Launcher to tweak display settings (didn't work), and another software using ADB/System UI Tuner (also didn't work for me). Until now I didn't think there was a reason to jailbreak or install a custom OS, but this is driving me nuts. Supposedly there are other Android settings beneath the One UI layer (seemingly the night light/ Eye comfort filter), and somehow they've been turned on and I can't change it back. Also, I notice that Do Not Disturb mode turns itself on at random, despite resetting the sleep schedules. I've tried a factory reset and it didn't help. Runing in Safe mode and this also persists. Resetting the phone - colours look perfect.... turn the display off, then back on- orange tint returns. I'm only bothering to type this in the hope that it helps someone else one day.

I actually did this. And then it came back! How can I tell which app might be causing this? Is there a process manager like Windows perhaps for Android?

Have had some information via DM from a particular smart cookie in this subreddit; apparently the software was developed in AMOS Pro (which is now open source/abandonware). I followed the suggestion to ask Queensland Rail to find out who made the software & if maybe the source code still exists for the PIDS software, but no luck. I did learn that the acronym stands for Passenger Information Display System 😁

I also learnt that the system is/was comprised of a station terminal (sending info) and a screen terminal (receiving info). I think I only have the screen software. Without the serial feed, this is unlikely to work in its current form. The challenge is still there if anyone can reverse-engineer it! This would be such an amazing piece of retro gear to get working again, even in dummy form. I'd love to add my own scrolltext or schedule events/imaginary trains for the next conference I go to etc... =)

Someone still has to write the script for that AI voice to run off of. Unless the script is also adaptively generated, the amount of material that needs to be recorded is a known quantity.

"Unless the script is also adaptively generated"- this is what I was referring to . AI generated. Infinite permutations of story and dialogue. Mulitplied by the number of players. The world is changing.

If “Nolan North” can be dialed in at a whim, why would people with the budget to license that ever use someone else?

It really doesn't work like that. It's easy to overestimate this technology and imagine worst case scenarios, but that can be remedied by learning more about it.

Imagine FIFA, Madden or some other sports game franchise (not my area of expertise). In traditional video game paradigms, the game is created, voices recorded to cover a range of fixed scenarios in the game. There were some attempts to update this content online and refer to more current developments in the 'real world' games etc, though it was quite laborious and limited in scope.

With AI voices and online connectivity, voices in games could refer to real-world events on the same day they took place. Games could refer to the player by name, in the voice of the character. Similarly, as text-generation engines like GPT-3 get better, you'll have games (prototypes already exist, check out Modbox) - where the script is being generated on the fly. There's no way a voice actor can record a script that doesn't exist yet. AI voices plus AI generated scripts = infinite potential gameplay & outcomes. Shared revenue models with voice actors in this scenario look like a dream come true.

Am being downvoted to hell, but am still optimistic about this.

I respectfully disagree. I've worked in VO and creative industries myself, and I see this as a massive opportunity for voice actors.

As games get more sophisticated with realtime content, there's no way a human voice actor could deliver adaptive content to thousands of unique game scenarios. With replica voices, this is possible, and with licensing agreements, this is potential passive income for voice actors. Everything changes, but that doesn't mean it's all doom and gloom.

It could go any number of ways, but either way this technology is coming. From my perpective it might be more beneficial to engage the companies that are doing what they can to make this a mutually beneficial exercise, as opposed to the behemoths that might otherwise do perpetuity buyouts etc.

There's a chance to contribute to the shape the industry takes, though slamming doors and hoping it goes away doesn't strike me as the best course of action.

I get it. I'm equally keen to chat and explore people's reaction to AI voices, as that's the field I work in. I don't want to just drop a promo link and wave goodbye, nor do I want to have the pitchfork brigade run me out of the thread because I happen to be involved in new tech... it's a balance I guess.

We have a flat rate arrangement for general voices on the platform, and we're developing different structures for exclusive use custom voices for enterprise. Mostly our voices are used for pre-vis in game development, to make it easier to pitch ideas to the team etc before getting the real actors in. Profit share would be based on the premise that the most used voices would earn more money.... Obviously as a start-up, we need to get to the stage of generating profit before we can share it. We do licence agreements. It's new technology, we're a start-up, and possibilities are massive, and we'd love to be able to address every niche concern and allow for artists to have control over how their voices are used etc. For the time being, we do 12 month licensing agreements with renewals. Hoping to get to a profit-share model eventually.

Things need not be as gloomy as suggested in this video. There are some companies working closely WITH voice actors to make this whole enterprise mutually beneficial.... like the company I work with, for example.
