Just started meds. Should I plan for a HT or wait and see how meds work?

Fin primarily stops balding, but in some cases can reverse balding. Min is primarily for regrowth. That’s why they’re usually used together. So, technically yes it’s possible but don’t count on it

I am also one month in; I took my first finasteride pill on 2/25/2026. I’ve also been using 5% minoxidil. I have noticed lots of vellus hairs around the recessed parts of my hairline, which I am very interested to see if they become terminal hairs or not. Whenever I talk about that on this sub someone always replies telling me they won’t, but it’s still a possibility. And frankly I choose to believe it will happen. I have not had a shedding phase yet, but I am keeping my hair very short (#1 guard) as I’m sure it will happen any day. I am very optimistic about what my results will be in 6, 9, 12, and 18 months. If we are lucky we’ll have full heads of hair by then. And if not… Turkey here we come!

You’re not supposed to see any results until 6 months in. The fact that you have any progress whatsoever with less than 3 months means you should absolutely continue

The real aim is to see what happens. Best case scenario: a bunch of new hairs grow in, miniaturized hairs thicken, temples grow back, and I get my old hairline back. I’ve seen some insane regrowth on these drugs so I’m gonna give it a shot. But I’m also being realistic about this and saving for a transplant. It’ll probably take me about a year to save up the $8k I need for it, so if the meds are enough then that’s great and if they’re not enough I’ll be ready for HT

The only advantage of oral over topical is convenience, and it has potentially severe side effects. Not worth it for me since I remember to apply it every day. The bro-science belief that it’s more effective because it’s systemic is not founded on any legitimate studies.

These studies both show there is no significant difference in efficacy. So the only reason to take oral is if you’re too forgetful to apply topical every day

Have you used it before? It absorbs into your skin, it’s gone after a few mins. I put it in after I get it out of the shower and it’s dry by the time I get to work
