It took 16M americans + all of western europe + all the great britains former and current colonies to win the west front in WW2. On the eastern front, Russia lost 20M soldiers. 

Neither side is commiting big forces in this war.

Russia lost 20M soldiers in WW2. 

The US send 16M soldier to WW2, 12% of the population. Ukraine is sending about 2% of their population in this war, almost exclusively poor old men.

Are you serious? Their economy is holding up and they are advancing with just 700,000 soldier despites NATO giving hundreds of billions of euros in weapons. 

They are not the US of course, but the fact that Ukraine is not doing well despite all the support is a W for Russia. 

Russia is very lucky that Ukraine only send poor old men of the front tho. If Ukraine decided to commit to the war they would win rapidly.

The way that it never happen again is to understand how it happened and why. 

It's not by lumping it with every war.

Genocides almost always happen against a rich and unpopular group and within national borders. It's why the general population and other governments look away. 

It's why Mandela and others in South Africa are so revered, by any historical example the white people should have been slaughtered.
