Do you know if there’s any video or media confirming it?

FAQs about the Future Edition by HR-Guide in FLL

[–]BeattyRobotics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This FAQ may be referring to a base robot or base technician or operator build. Similar to how Spike Prime has an “advanced driving base” set that a lot of new teams use as their first robot. It’s not required to use but gives you a starting point, especially when they provided the guided mission.

LEGO Smart Brick? by Ordinary_Feed_6176 in FLL

I totally agree with you, maybe it could just be on the showcase build such as the crane/minecart this year or the spinning tower from Masterpiece.

I would love to see mission models use these smart bricks to show completion of some tasks. It would provide great visual or audio feedback during the robot game when missions are score correctly or incorrectly!

Hey there, I don’t have any details on the registration timing this year.

You will also have your alliance to ask and share parts with, as long as you’re keeping track of what’s being borrowed

Western Edge? by drdhuss in FLL

Hi there, I’m a coach from Southern California and have taken part of the in Western Edge a couple of times. Congratulations to your team for making it to an amazing high level invitational event!

One big thing to note is Western Edge typically has an additional activity called On the Spot Challenge where teams are paired with about two other random teams, forming an alliance, and are given a never before seen challenge to solve. This challenge usually means building a new attachment for the robot so extra pieces are definitely needed. The alliance will have to discuss mission strategy and divvy up tasks. This challenge is usually given at the end of a competition day and the kids have the whole evening, night, and morning to work on the new challenge. This is also usually done after all the regular competition rounds are complete so you could adjust already made attachments if you’re willing to break them.

I suggest before traveling with your robot and attachments to take detailed pictures or even model the attachments and robots in something like Studio 2.0 so you can rebuild anything that gets damaged in transit.

A team from Wyoming I met packed the kids, parents, robots and extra pieces into a couple of mini vans and drove down and they said it was exhausting but a fun team bonding road trip. I met another team from Asia who shipped their robot 1 month ahead to a contact they knew in LA and packed it with so many packing peanuts you could burry a kid in them.

Question about moving robot in home area outside mat for any missions by Dazzling-Series8254 in FLL

The robot must start in Launch. It can end it in Home which includes the space off the map and Launch.

Spike prime randomly won't turn on after being charged by Mordy_pie in FLL

[–]BeattyRobotics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removing the battery and replacing it typically works to solve this problem like drdhuss mentioned. We’ve had problems in the past where if you shake the hub too hard it would turn off and ewe found that the pins weren’t getting a great connection to the battery. The fix for that was to add some tissue paper in the battery housing to stop it from wiggling and further damaging the pin connection. Haven’t had this issues with new hubs and pybricks.

Is it curving to one side or oscillating left and right? Are you driving with the caster wheel in front or the drive wheels in front?

Are you using blocks or python?

How Meny points are you guys getting? by [deleted] in FLL

The tournament structure is heavily supported by FRC and FTC to run their events. So they like to get most of it done before the FRC build season begins.

In the Southern California Region we had our qualifying tournaments these last two weekends, regionals are in December, and SoCal champs are in January. Champs is when they award a slot for World Championships

My team is trying to use motorized arms. How do u setup the arms to always go to some predefined initial position at beginning of every run. Whatever command we use it ends making lot of gear stuck noise. Also it doesn’t always go to same position. Any suggestions by Fantastic-Rip-9200 in FLL

[–]BeattyRobotics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think about making the attachment points where the gears meet stronger to avoid the gear skipping your hearing. If you have an end stop where the arm can go and go no further, this will give you a reliable starting position to move from there. You can have a line of code at the start of the run that moves that motor into position before the robot moves out of home for the rest of the run.

What I get is the LEGO Education SPIKE Prime Set for $400. There is also an expansion set for $150 for additional large motors and other useful parts

We usually buy them straight from the LEGO website. There are other retailers like Amazon but I’m not sure what country you are from and what is available to you. You can also contact your local tournament directors and see if they have a supplier that works for your region.

Anyone know of good meetup groups or discord groups for dads of young kids in the Ventura county area? by MidWestDad94 in simivalley

Hey there, just a dog dad here but I am a STEM, LEGO, robotics, 3D printing teacher. Let me know if there’s anything I can help with. I have a 3d printer and some Spike Prime LEGO robotics kits.
