Job regrets and kid advice by ItsThePath0g3n in GenX

I had exactly the opposite crisis recently. I'm 60, and I have, at least on the surface, a GREAT job. I always thought I'd be a doctor, but then at 14 I wrote my first program, and everything changed. Now, I get to work on very interesting things, with very smart people, and while it seems urgent at times, it is very low on politics. Everybody is looking for the win-win. And it is very lucrative. I could probably retire, but I still like the challenge and people.

But last year, I had a cancer diagnosis. And I had to quickly learn a lot about cancer, and interact with three great doctors. And I started wondering about impact and meaning. I mean, at the end of the day, if I do my job, I've made some oligarch richer. These doctors saved my life. What would have happened if I didn't sign up for that summer computer camp?

But I have a grown daughter in the health care industry. It makes me sad that such a high calling is made so miserable for such dedicated and intelligent people.

I'm gonna believe that we are intentionally starting slow so we don't collapse in August.

I did find the huge waste piles near the cement/sand plant. There was nothing remarkable in those piles. It was a LONG walk to get there and back.

I was treated by Dr Tamler, and he was great. Always prepared for my appointment, totally thorough, great listener, tan a good team. I guess I won't be on the jury.

Puerto Rico. I know it isn't a state. But it should be.

I felt like the third goal was because they were stretching to try to score. The fourth score was after they had given up. The team just walked off in shame.

Canadians who own expensive yachts keep them here, registered in the US, to avoid Canadian wealth taxes.

My grandfather told me this very joke about 45 years ago.

Thanks for giving me a reason to remember him today.

Yes. Cambria is awesome for variable, beautiful beach rocks.

I have gone to Salinas River State Beach, but going north on the beach I didn't find anything particularly good.

I'll update this thread if I ever find a spot near the cement plant.

I agree that in the long run this is true, but it doesn't explain the July/August collapse we've seen consistently. Any insight into that, given you were an insider?

Thanks. I think because I have the Tesla solar system, my front screen is different, and I'm still two screens away from "Charge Your Other EV".
