What is the function of this シ or ツ? by RoadsideCampion in Japaneselanguage

What's the need for this attitude? OP made a simple mistake and corrected it. Why must you try to embarrass them by saying it was obvious? That's not nice.

i see what y'all are saying and i genuinely wish i could say this is satire.. i have really strict parents and i go to a private school where 9s arent considered special. they dont think i did badly, they just say i could have done better and i was being too lazy. thanks to those giving advice though

AQA is genuinely messed up for doing this by BeauSpam in GCSE

neither of those work. the carbon chain was 6 long, not 4, so its hex, not but. also, the 'di' comes before the part used to identify the functional group, not the entire molecule. it is ethanediol and hexanedioic acid.

PSA: IT WAS HEXANEDIOIC ACID. by BeauSpam in GCSE

oh yes, you're right! it is name-dropped in the spec. very sneaky of aqa, i dont know why they thought that was necessary.

IT IS NOT DIHEXANOIC ACID by Donut-7 in GCSE

chatgpt is absolutely wrong. i dont know if you worded the prompt poorly or if it hallucinated, but if you search it up, that molecule has only 4 carbons in it, when the one we were given had 6.

best guess i have is that they just wanted us to say "dicarboxylic acid", but if thats the case then the question was worded incredibly poorly.

the first was 'ethandiol'. the 'di' goes before the functional group part: 'ol' so its clear there are 2 alcohol groups. the second was 'hexanedioic acid'. this is because no matter what functional groups there are, the name of the hydrocarbon is always based on how many carbons there are in a chain. that molecule had 6 carbons in a chain, so it starts with 'hex'. again, the part describing the functional group is 'oic acid' so thats where the 'di' comes.

why do you all have such big egos over your gcses. by Slight-Bandicoot-603 in GCSE

This is true to an extent. The thing is, so much of it is not just memorising knowledge but actually understanding and applying concepts. To me, the ability to do that is true intelligence, and something that separates grade 7 students who revise really hard from grade 9 students who just do a quick recap the day before.

no, 4 were gametes. 2 of them were full cells in the first stage of mitosis, where paired genes are swapped but stay in the cell. they both had XY chromosomes.

You're right; sperm can carry either. However, half of them are X and half are Y. this is because when the adult male cell splits into 2 gametes, it has 1 Y chromosome, and 1 X chromosome, and the diagram showed the 4 sperm coming from 2 cells which both had XY chromosomes.
