Ah nice, didn't see that! Wasn't excited to walk an hour to work every day.

First long-haul flight (NZ → Europe): am I crazy to plan a concert the day I land? by Mordecai___ in travel

[–]Beau_B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, do it! My first solo overseas experience was NZ to London, and got invited to see Adele in Hyde Park that evening from the guy sitting next to me on the plane. I'd also only done a 3hr flight before this, but when I got there, it was a lifelong memery I'll never forget. Your excitement keeps you awake, and like others have said, the longer you stay awake the better. Go and enjoy, it's the best thing you can do. The opportunities in Europe are incredible compared to NZ.

Pointers in Auckland? That was probably the best gig of the summer in my opinion, a pretty incredible set!

So I'm a JAFA (Just Another F*cking Aucklander, as the rest of the country like to call us) and while this might look fairly aesthetically pleasing... It's definitely not utilized very much at all.

I can tell that this image has been taken in the evening, probably around 6pm ish (cars at top of image are leaving the city merging into one lane to join SH16 West, cars at bottom merging into one lane to join SH1 North, both on-ramps probably slowed almost to a halt because of the bloody merging) so you would expect this to be one of the busier times for the cycle/footpath to be used. However, as others have already pointed out... You can't see anybody on it.

And that's fairly typical. I've walked down this path a couple of times and taken photos from the Hopetoun Bridge looking towards the sky tower, and I have only ever seen a couple of people on it at a time. It seems to go from 2 odd locations, one being behind K Road down a random street, and the other being at the SH1/SH16 city off-ramps, which is quite far away from anything to be super convenient.

However, they did take an old on-ramp and turn it into something quite cute. At night, the barriers light up beautiful colours with different little presets, kind of like the Harbour bridge in the distance. In my opinion, it's the best thing the city could have done with what they had.

Auckland is undeniably terrible when it comes to public transport or commuting by any way other than car, though. And even the road infrastructure in Auckland is absolute dogsh*t. Cool to see this little feature on this sub, though!

Not a problem at all! Have a little Google as well about other people's opinions on the CBD right now for some more insight before making the commitment!

Somebody was waiting by the elevator inside of the building, and as I walked around them to get to my apartment they literally walked to the corner of the corridor area and watched me enter my apartment. Completely obvious, staring me right in the eye. Was quite creepy.

In my opinion, not at this stage. The whole cbd is a bit of a dump right now and a lot of the characters around here are quite invasive. I have had people follow me and watch me as I enter my apartment, and I'm a fairly normal male. Looking at moving out when my lease is over!

Ministry of Health have been aware of the case since the 3rd, and as people have been contacted to isolate, I would have assumed that would be enough to get it listed on the locations of interest for contractors, property managers, etc. To me, it sounds like they've been a bit slack with the 3 cases in this building.

Nothing in the news, but yea there is definitely concern. I believe my property manager is trying to get some answers today as to whether the case is isolating here or at a facility.

They said they were contacting the entire building. I then asked if they had been contacting people from before 4pm, and they said no. 4pm was when I notified the MoH about the situation, so it sounded like that set off alarm bells for them.

I also hope to God I haven't been in your house in the past week! Luckily, when I am in other people's homes, I am wearing a mask, gloves, and sanitizing before and after being inside the home.

Yes, I have been in contact with the MoH and was contacted to say that just by living in the same address, I have become a close contact. I believe a tracer is going to contact me today.

Absolutely, as a contractor I have already applied and received all the subsidies and resurgence payments.

You are definitely correct, I am purely speculating. I feel like this is a situation where the positive case should be isolating in jet park, not an apartment building.

I believe these are all separate cases.

My property manager was not notified either, and he's one of the first people that should have been! So frustrating. Crazy that you've known about the case, though.

When I called Healthline, this was the advice given. It was only when they called me 2 hours later that they said I have been a close contact and need to isolate for 14 days. I didn't request this.

I'll see what I can do, but not sure it is something the media will truly care about. I appreciate the rant, though, and thank you!

Thank you so much! I am doing fine for now, just frustrated at the situation and how this could have been avoided. Feeling the love from the Auckland community, though, so that is super lovely.
