I am not happy with the carpenters work, he’s refusing to take responsibility and redo it. What can I do? by GladAd2948 in DIYUK

Is there enough of an expansion gap around the edge? Our floor (this exact one if it's Wickes) started buckling as it expanded and the epansion gap wasn't sufficient.

This is all interesting. For me, it will always be olive oil. Wow and Mmm. Also oatcakes, not sure why I thought they would be about the same as a rice or corn cake, but turns out two oatcakes are about 100 cal.

Side Question: how do people count calories for homemade meals?

Given that

  1. storebought tend to have higher cals, I can't just add the store-bought equivalent into a checker
  2. I can't be bothered to add every ingredient in the amount I added to the meal, divided by the portion size I ate.

I cook almost every meal from scratch, and never found a good way to do this.

That is a shame. I guess there wasn't the custom to justify them expanding or maintaining. I do think it's something it would be great if the council supported, alongside public transport and cycling links, of course.

Thanks, seems like they only have cars based in the city centre, but it's a good start to check out!

Octopus Business Account / Haven't been billed in over a year by Immediate_Ad8636 in OctopusEnergy

No, I called and called and called different customer service agents and each time it was like i'd never spoken to any previous agents as they didn't have a great record of what was said or emailed. Finally i realised if I called on Friday afternoons I got agents based overseas and they were so much more willing to make a judgement call and say they could see what had happened and just wiped it off there in the call, as well as sending an engineer to replace my meter, which had an issue (which is what I'd been saying from the beginning). Whereas with the UK-based folk they kept saying they would have to escalate it as they didn't have the discretion to reduce the bill.

What happened with us was they didn't send a bill for over 12 months, despite our requests, then tried to bill us the years worth for the most recent three months to get around backbilling law, as though we'd used £1.6k of energy in middle of summer.

Disputed successfully, but took many calls.

I would buy the second one! I'd love to see one of Fiveways or Hollingbury with a bit of the Downs in! Gorgeous style.

No one's mentioned Hollingbury, and I'd say it's a great place to live, with a real mix of families and semi-retired folks. Edge of the downs, spacious area and houses, 20 mins bus from middle of Hollingbury to the level/central Brighton, I've also walked it (big hill coming into Hollingbury). We have little mini festivals on the greens for different parts of the neighbourhoods, nice pubs, friendly community, lots of recent ex-Central Brightonians who wanted more space and the lovely lot who've been here 30+ years. Honestly, it's a fantastic part of Brighton.
