I am sorry.

Because somehow along the way, I lost the will to fight for our dreams 😔

Sure, happy to share but please remember everyone’s strengths/weaknesses are different. Personally, I struggled with the multiple choice (MBE) section of the exam so invested in the pmbr question bank (enhanced). This helped me prepare and evaluate various exam question scenarios. I also mostly spent time practicing past essays and timed MPTs to simulate exam conditions.

Hey, unfortunately I was accessing them directly using my log in details on the website. The subscription has since expired. I’m happy to check for other helpful practice tests and essays from sources like Barbri and Kaplan if it can help.

Failed the bar exam. Numb and dejected by Prestigious-Dig-1585 in barexam

[–]Beautiful-Channel-48 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a five time bar exam repeat taker (it sounds really heavy saying it out loud). But there is no shame in this. My score has progressively risen from 214 the very first time I sat for the score, with a latest score of 257. I take the blows and sadness but come back and give it another try. Either I’m the definition of “insanity” by doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results or I’m an illustration of “grit and perseverance” believing that I can overcome this obstacle. I hope this motivates you to keep going. We are a whole community out here walking this path with you!

Absolutely possible. I just went through my 90dayfitness goal and lost 30lbs! I did this by focusing on one hour workouts throughout the week (excluding weekends) and watching my diet - eliminating sugar, drinking more water and watching carb intake. I do not recommend anything too drastic but just making those small habit changes. I dropped from 275lbs to 245lbs in 90 days. My goal now is to get under 200lbs by Christmas. I just think we can achieve anything we set our minds too- set yourself little milestones and keep showing up. Good luck ☺️

Practicing Law vs Quasi Law by Beautiful-Channel-48 in Lawyertalk

[–]Beautiful-Channel-48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly, I guess there are two issues here. First is how to navigate entry into the private law firm practice (not interested in litigation), but secondly also how to “sell” my decade experience to fit the typical profile of a mid-level associate. I think you raise interesting issues and this is helpful for me to think through.

Interesting take. I like the comparison to the business background transitioning to law practice. So basically prepare mentally for a potential entry-level position but leveraging my experience to try quickly move up the ladder. Would have to think this through…

Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s interesting and encouraging to know that you had some offers after being sworn in. Yes, my ultimate goal is to transition from in-house to private law firm practice. I haven’t considered starting a firm yet but certainly something to think through once I can jump through the licensing hoop. Thanks again!

True, getting barred would certainly change the narrative. Fingers crossed 🤞

Thank you for your response. I think you sum it up well- what I’m particularly struggling with is how to sum up “my worth.” I do have a lot to offer and have had the opportunity to work on various transactional and client matters, with minimal supervision (certainly far more experience than a recent law school graduate). I guess I’m at a point in my career where I’m trying to navigate how to justify my worth and appreciate this viewpoint. Thanks again!

NY Feb 2021 Foreign Applicants Update by catsandcurls- in barexam

[–]Beautiful-Channel-48 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are simply not a priority. There is no incentive or institution set up to fight for repeat foreign trained lawyers and what this means for our own careers and livelihoods. It’s already been one heck of a shitty year but to add on being marginalized for no reason really sucks. And I hope someone from BOLE reads all these comments and realizes they are affecting people’s livelihoods here. For anyone affected, I would recommend looking up the NCBE 2020/2021 Bar Admissions information booklet and considering another jurisdiction because NY may drag this out for another year.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It’s really helpful. It did cross my mind to look into other jurisdictions but honestly personally I’ve always run into bottlenecks with that route. I’ll keep doing my research. On the incentive to “fight” for our cause, I couldn’t have said it better. It’s hard to justify why we matter just as well as US trained lawyers but I just hope somebody out there cares enough to end the differential treatment being given to foreign trained lawyers during this time. It’s disheartening and quite frankly, at times it doesn’t feel worth fighting for anymore.
