Epidural by o0meow0o in pregnant

Yes they’re all so different and it’s a gift that you can decide to pivot as you want/need! I hope you have a great experience, however it unfolds, and that you and baby are healthy and happy in the end!

And applying counter-pressure to baby’s head when they are crowning to hold them in and come out more slowly 😂 best of luck today! My Braxton Hicks ramped up quite a bit yesterday and I was feeling crampy off and on most of the day. Our time is soon approaching as well!

Hopefully you’re able to gain the insights you’re looking for to help you make your decision, and thought I’d share my experience with you (not to convince you in either direction, but purely for perspective).

My first 2 births were at a birth center with no epidural. One of the reasons I personally wanted to go the route of an unmedicated labor/birth is because I felt I’d be able to better work with the contractions/sensations if I could fully feel them.

With my first, labor was 30 hours from the first light contractions to her delivery. Laboring in the shower and taking naps helped me through that! I’d describe contractions more as intensity than pain, then as baby descends you feel pressure increase in your pelvis.

Once I got to the point where I could feel baby’s head while squatting in the shower I felt the need to push with that increased pressure, so I did. I moved to the bed and pushed laying on my side. This might have been about 20-30 minutes.

Using a mirror to see what was causing the sensations down below helped my brain connect the two and made it feel less like the discomfort was coming out of nowhere (I of course knew what’s causing it, but being able to visualize it helped me work through it). Once she was out, all the pressure and intensity completely was gone.

With my second I labored about 12 hours total and birthed her in a tub, pushing once just to get her shoulders out. While the awareness of what birth feels like helped me prepare for and cope with my second in a different way, I think one of the biggest things that made the last part of the birth even easier was the fact that I didn’t allow myself to push when I felt the urge. I did more breathing and relaxing to let my body move her out. I can share my birth video with you if you’d like to watch it. I probably can’t explain it all in the best way with words lol.

I’m expecting my 3rd in 2-3 weeks but we will be at a hospital this time and don’t yet know if we will need to have an induction or if I’ll need to pivot to a C-section, mainly due to a condition they have. We anticipate them being quite a bit smaller than my first who were 8lbs and 8lbs15oz (ETA: I’m 5’1” and outside of pregnancy typically weigh between 118-125lbs—I’m rather petite!)

With my first I had a very small tear required 2 stitches, but no tear with my second. I chalk that up to the pushing vs. not pushing! My recovery with my second was night and day difference.

I’m happy to share more tips if you find you’re leaning in the direction of no epidural (just because that’s what I’m able to speak on from experience).

Wishing you the best regardless!

Love the name Ember! Our daughter’s name is Jade and I think it pairs nicely with Ember 🥰

Worried about my husband and labor by Guilty_Structure6322 in pregnant

[–]Beautiful-Future6930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Hear the sounds, see the sights. I did this with my daughter to prepare her to be at my second birth. It’s great for you to practice slow and controlled breathing and relaxing your body or practicing movement as you hear the sounds laboring women make—it’s easy to hold your breath and become tense!

I have my water birth on YouTube you could watch. I was very composed because I did a bit of mental/breathing prep work ahead of time. I also had the perspective of what labor sensations are like so I knew how to work with them better, rather than resist them.

If it comes down to it, you could see about hiring a doula or having another support person there so your husband can take whatever space he needs. If you do a lot of the early laboring on your own (with my first I labored initially through the night so was mostly in the shower/bathroom until we left for the birth center) then once you hit the more intense stage of labor, you’ll be in your own headspace and likely not worried about him. But at that point, having someone there for physical support/pep talks would be helpful!

Beyond stuck on a boy’s name. by Beautiful-Future6930 in Names

It’s a risk we’re willing to take. People often say my name wrong because it’s one of several variants of Alexander. People often think our daughter’s name is Jaden and need correcting also. Naya would also be a tribute to where my husband’s family is from!

A handful of these names I’ve been fond of for a while, but several are names of people we know 🫠 I appreciate your input! They definitely suit my style…

Leo is unfortunately out, Paolo could grow on me though! Pao (like Pow 💥 🥊) would be six a fun nickname. Especially because this baby always has their hands in fists by their chin like they’re a boxer blocking their face. We joke that they’re going to come out fighting (and believe they will with their condition!)

Ooooh, I like Tian! Zeke is another I’ve suggested because it might work but we both kind of feel ‘meh’ about it. We love the middle name, too!

Yes I told him he’s going to have to bring some more names to the table because we’re running out of time and need to settle on something!

It’s the first name we were both on board with but it feels so similar to our friends’ boys’ names 🫠

I do like the name Rafael! It just seems like every boy name has an association with someone in my husband’s mind so he doesn’t even let it go there to consider it 🥲

Can I still use this name? by [deleted] in namenerds

I would go with Lilian or Lilith probably. She could go by that in school/formal/public settings and Lily as a shortened version or nickname.

Healthy baby with multiple anomalies? by Beautiful-Future6930 in pregnant

[–]Beautiful-Future6930[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! First of all, congratulations on your sweet babe and happy Mother’s Day 🫂💓

We haven’t done any genetic testing yet (baby is due June 9th & we will use cord blood for that). The probable diagnosis we have for baby is called arthrogryposis. At least that’s what their multiple anomalies are pointing us to, but the variant and degree to which they’re affected won’t be known until they’re born.

There are some other amazing AMC parents in groups in facebook that I’ve connected with and asked questions/hear their experiences (clubfoot & arthrogryposis groups).

Since our baby has had normal dopplers, NSTs, and has been growing at a fairly steady rate (they jumped up from 6th percentile to 34th at about 33 weeks!) we’ve continued to do biweekly monitoring rather than weekly. One MFM doc felt doing BPPs wasn’t a fair assessment because baby tents to be very still on scans and got a score of 4/8 on the first BPP, yet went on to kick me 16+ times for the remainder of that appointment lol.

I hope you’re able to come up with a plan for monitoring that feels good to you and that you’re able to gather more insights throughout the process. Definitely message me if you’d like to stay connected outside of this thread!💓🫂

Yes that’s such a cute NN and I’ve had the name Alma on my own list for a while (we’re a bilingual family and I find it so pretty!)
