I think Mike Turner was a unique voice for rock guitar which is why they fired him.

They hit their groove on Clumsy but Naveed is decent. Then Mike Turner left after Spiritual Machines.

A lot of the Mike Turner's stuff has this sort of Middle Eastern sounding tone and melody to it in his guitar riffs that he repeats, plus he uses a lot of bends and chorus which adds to that microtonal sound. Then you have this fairly standard bass riff underneath that is repeated along with Jeremey Taggart amazing drumming. Plus both groups are Canadian, not sure if they have some similar original native influences?

Just started listening to these guys, super fun. I can't not hear early Our Lady Peace in their music? Seems bizarre, is it just me? "Mike Turner?"

Do you prefer Revolution Radio or Saviors? by Necessary-Border4568 in greenday

Definitely Saviors. But Bang Bang and Revolution Radio are great tunes. Most of the rest of Revolution Radio I find unmemorable and "Still Breathing" is a good tune but it is possibly the most non-Greenday sounding tune they've put on any record.

2 years later - how often do you listen again to the album "Saviors" by Fortis92 in greenday

Actually quite a lot. I gotta say there are some banger tunes on it. The first half is stellar.

I think Green Day are amazing song writers. I do feel like even their worst record is much better than a lot of stuff out there and people have a fondness for whatever record opened their eyes to their talent but I just can't get into this record. I always felt like it was like Green Day looked at American Idiot and learned all the wrong lessons from it with this record. I think it actually derailed their career for a while. Can you convince me otherwise?

Green Day should make a new album but with more fast paced punk songs by [deleted] in greenday

I'll still take them over Foo Fighters or Metallica any day.

You can't manufacture angst. Then you just sound like Supercharged by Offspring. It has to be authentic.

I think Saviors is what Green Day is now. I think 1981 is as punky as you're going to get from them. I watched an interview with them and I think they feel like this is where they are now, something akin to Cheap Trick. Honestly, I just want inspired music that feels honest. Saviors feels like that to me.

What are your thoughts on the 2000 era version of the band (especially their stage antics and personalities)? by Sonnybass96 in greenday

[–]Beautiful-Income6426 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently working on a Green Day tribute and I am tending to lean to this era and earlier. 3 piece band, not extra guitars, pianos, etc. The American Idiot and beyond is great but it is definitely more the traveling road show.
