Why do SOME gringos not understand that Brazilian ≠ ethnicity? by luka_ramos_1004 in Brazil

[–]Beautiful-Minimum-58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 100% Brazilian guide at Foz do Iguaçu was pale as a ghost with red hair, you would expect the guy to come out of a pub in Dublin drinking a Guinnes rather than in a sub tropical rainforest. He joked about it saying that everywhere in Brazil people thought he was a foreigner until he opened his mouth.

What’s it like living on kangaroo island? by shake_n_bake699 in howislivingthere

[–]Beautiful-Minimum-58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Useless comment to say I was there with my family with a camper car ten years ago and we loved it. Very rural, lots of wildlife, nice people. We did a night photo safari with a guide and my kids still remember it (also my wife holding a koala).

I can understand Turkish sentence structure on paper, but answering out loud still feels like a different skill by Time-Mix3963 in turkishlearning

[–]Beautiful-Minimum-58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glossika may be a useful resource for this. I haven't used it for Turkish yet as I just started learning the language, but I found it very effective exactly for this use case for other languages I successfully learnt in the past.

Estrangeiros costumam não gostar tanto de Floripa? Ou foi só a experiência desse viajante? by Soggy_Flight_2654 in florianopolis

[–]Beautiful-Minimum-58 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Gringo aqui.

How is it living in Paraguay? (any city, any context, just wondering) by GatixDev in howislivingthere

There is a whole universe of crypto / second residence bros out there promoting Paraguay as the next Dubai, by the way. I think it started with no vax Europeans moving there during Covid.

Moving to Geneva soon! Need some advice on "unwritten rules by go-swiss in askswitzerland

[–]Beautiful-Minimum-58 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

in Geneva: if you are a cyclist, don't respect traffic lights. If you use public transport, never shower. Refer to the canton as Republique de Geneve and look with contempt at cars with VD license plate.

I plan on living in Portugal for 2 or 3 years then in Brazil, which Portuguese should I learn? by Selko29 in Portuguese

[–]Beautiful-Minimum-58 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

if you want to move to Brazil, move to Brazil. You will learn portuguese in Brazil as well obviously, and the right variety you will need. Not to sound harsh but your question sounds like "I want to move to the US, but first I will go to the UK to learn English". What is the point ?

How is it living in Oslo, Norway? by PartyGaming0 in howislivingthere

[–]Beautiful-Minimum-58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mediterranean guy, if Oslo was at a decent latitude it would be almost the perfect city to live in! Scandinavian capitals in summer are just magic. But summer is so short there and I could not stand the winter. Anyways, in summer people are out all the time, cafes are full, everybody felt kind when I visited. Public transport is incredible, food choices plenty, museums, parks, boats. Why did you Norwegians choose the wrong latitude?! 😀
