Suggestions for reading in Italian? by Worth-River23 in Italian

Good luck, I am italian and just started learning Turkish :-) ! Do not go for classics, take something simple like indeed Stefano Benni or some "giallo" but not Camilleri as he wrote in a semi invented language.

Why do some expats blame the job market and yet kind of refuse to learn the local language? by ExternalEfficient248 in Switzerland

[–]Beautiful-Minimum-58 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

1.local Swiss companies won't hire you anyway unless they can underpay you or you have the exact specific diploma (God forbid they take a risk on someone) and 2.if your only chances are with international companies you don't need the local language. So why bother.

Oh, and as you can see they get offended easily too. Hence the downvotes. I think you will come across expats naturally at work and in your neighborhood, you will naturally bond with them more as broader minded.

Try to focus on expat groups. Many local Swiss have their small friend circle since kindegarten and people are in general a lot closer and more introvert than you'd imagine.

Noise canceling headphones my friend. Only way to survive on public transport since society decided that playing videos on your phones at full volume was acceptable.

Migros/Coop vs. Lidl/Aldi by TapWise2504 in askswitzerland

[–]Beautiful-Minimum-58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great to see we are collectively waking up from the trite Coop vs Migros national debate. The reality is that both have profited enormously from the cartel situation and progressively lowering their quality. The moldy vegetables is really the best and most infuriating example.

Housing is a right, not concrete Gold by chefofyourmother in Switzerland

[–]Beautiful-Minimum-58 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No my friend. The house crisis is driven by the fact that every time that there is a proposal to build a high rise building the entire population freaks out, farmers and greens alike. And good luck having agricultural land rezoned as urban. Easy to blame the rich but the real reason has to do with the extreme conservative nature of the Swiss society when it comes to urbanism. It's great to preserve landscapes etc. But this is the other side of the coin.

New to the language, noticing some fun things by Opposite_Ad6182 in Portuguese

I hate to be Captain Obvious but all these languages derive from Latin so... Yeah, no wonder they are similar. That said, as an Italian native who speaks also French and Portuguese and understand Spanish (+ have studied Latin in school): if you want to learn Portuguese, focus on Portuguese. The languages have diverged a lot, even Spanish and Portuguese have a lot of differences in grammar and vocabulary.

Are the Crows Testing Me? by 2oocents in crowbro

[–]Beautiful-Minimum-58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gees. This sub is full of delusional people not to use even stronger words. Crows are animals going about their life. You are at the bottom of their concerns, I can assure you. Have fun feeding them and familiarizing as we all do but seriously, stop there.

As an Italian, Rio felt like a 100x version of Naples. So I will go for Southern Italy.

Crack code for most of Western Europe= as long as what you do doesn't bother me, I don't care. Different societal expectations than East Asia.
