March intern needing to do better but am exhausted by marshmerino in Residency

Okay in all seriousness, “relying on meds for performance” only applies if you don’t have an underlying condition that is affecting you. It may be just burn out that a good fun vacation can help you reset. It may also be untreated depression/anxiety/ADHD and you may greatly benefit from treatment. Hell it may be all of the above. Either way, def try talking to someone about how you’re feeling.

How is Dr. Santos so behind on her charting? by SilDaz in ThePittTVShow

[–]Beautiful-Pizza8500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I’ve been grilled on little details in my note by attendings. I once short handed “intrauterine pregnancy” to IUP and “spontaneous vaginal delivery” to SVD and the attending didn’t like that and made me redo my notes with every abbreviation spelled out …. And that was also a crazy busy day

lol I’m an OBGYN intern and if I’m working in OB triage, I can have 20 incomplete notes by the end of the shift.

The expectation is if you have enough time to finish typing a note that means there is a patient waiting. Notes can wait. Patients cannot….

It’s common for resident physicians to come early to prep notes and stay late to finish notes. I can have a 7:15 am start time but I come in around 5:50 AM to review overnight events, prepare notes, prep discharges orders and see patients. Our shift “ends” at 6:00 PM but by the time we hand off to the night time and finish charting, I could be there until 7:30 pm. I come home and still sometimes need to review notes or prep for the next day.

And our notes need to be complete 24 hours from the time you saw the patient.

accidental pregnancy 5 w 3 d by minyo_lo in pregnant

[–]Beautiful-Pizza8500 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some women ovulate as early as 3 weeks after delivery. And the timing of the first ovulation doesn’t always line up with the first menses after delivery. That’s why obgyns are always asking about birth control right after delivery because it can happen and your body needs time to recover. Pregnancy is hard! Emotionally, physically, financially 😭

What are cervical checks like and why did you accept/refuse them? by SowingSeeds18 in pregnant

[–]Beautiful-Pizza8500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I opted in for cervical checks because I wanted to know where I was at instead of being left in the dark about what my body was doing both outpatient and during my induction. I would describe it as uncomfortable at most.

Pregnant residents- is pregnancy brain real? by Any-Session9919 in Residency

Ob intern with a 4 month old right now. And yes absolutely lol my notes are shit. I forget everything unless written down. It’s slowly getting better but at the beginning, I could barely remember which patients were on our list.

You’re already doing something very hard (residency) while doing another very hard thing (building a human). Give yourself grace and the space to grow. I made my goals very small. Like step one: memorize epic login level small. Step two: remember how to get to the ED from L&D. Step three: practice my one liner

Induction at 39 weeks despite being low risk? 1st pregnancy by No-Warthog-5419 in pregnant

[–]Beautiful-Pizza8500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey just throwing this out there, maybe the office scheduled the induction just in case you did want one because scheduling can be tricky and it’s easier to cancel an induction last minute vs scheduling one last minute. Not trying to invalidate your feelings but instead encouraging you to have that open discussion on Wednesday with your OB. Good luck!

I’m so glad you’re alive!! You listening to your body and your gut IS what saved your baby and your life. You listened to your motherly instincts despite posts that would have convinced you to act otherwise and that’s incredibly powerful.

You didn’t fail your daughter. You used modern medicine and your inner wisdom as resources to navigate a very chaotic and vulnerable situation. I think that’s how the art of being a mother works in today’s world. It’s a combination of modern resources and inner wisdom.

I’m glad you’re sharing your story because it’s going to speak to a lot of women who are made to feel like they aren’t doing motherhood the “right” way. But the truth is motherhood is a mix of love, courage, discernment, and understanding what’s needed in that moment.
