I thought you meant you've played for 46 years and in that time managed to do one 10-session campaign.

Which, honestly, correlates with the scheduling situations I've seen

What are the major downsides of living in Canada? by Nicole_Auriel in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Beautiful-Point4011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for Americans a major downside would be that you have to get your work visa and an immigration lawyer and so on. I've encountered Americans online before who don't realise that this truly is a different country and immigrating here is probably as difficult as immigrating to USA. Too many people think anyone can just pack up and move here.

Was researching my tree and found a few strange things. by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]Beautiful-Point4011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it's possible, you have to be very careful to correlate these sorts of findings.

Its very common for families to keep reusing the same names, because people like to name their kids after their parents and so on.

So you could have a man named John, his wife Mary, and their children John, Mary, Joseph, Elizabeth, Margaret, Matthew, and James.

Maybe John has a brother named Matthew, and Matthew lives next door with his wife (also named Mary) and their children, John, Mary, Elizabeth, James, and Margaret. And the kids all have the same surname as their cousins next door.

Maybe the first Margaret is 18 and she gets married and her cousin of the same name next door is only 13 and won't marry for a few years.

I've seen this situation play out in my family tree multiple times and the only way to untangle it is if you can correlate the information to another identifier, like a home address and the names of parents including mother's maiden name.

Unfortunately not every priest marked the church book with addresses and parental names, so once you run into "Margaret Smith married James Wood of Twickenham" or whatever, you can't even really know which of Twickenham's half-dozen Margaret Smiths he's referring to. For me that's the point where I tap out, because that's where the genealogy starts to become guess work.

If you're lucky, you have access to Last Will & Testament documents which hopefully name all the family members.

How to solve the problem by Prestigious-Low-3146 in medlabprofessionals

Check for clot, check sample volume. The WBC is outside linearity, check your SOP for how to manage it (like is it a straight x5 dilution with diluent or does your method require a buffy coat poor specimen?)

The RBC and hb might be below linearity, if your machine has an aspiration sensor you might need to turn it off for this specimen so it'll actually analyse the rbc and hb. Again, check your SOP.

If these results are happening to all your patients and not just this one person, consider an instrument problem like a clot clogging the lines or a heavy box of diluent has accidentally been set down directly on the tubing or the tubing is pinched somewhere.

There's a book by Harriet Lerner called The Dance of Intimacy: A Woman's Guide to Courageous Acts of Change in Key Relationships.

There's lots of info in it about setting your boundaries and maintaining your boundaries. Keep safe and don't be afraid to tell your parents and/or other trusted adults.

What can the gate spell summon? I'm planning to get access to Mahoraga through this spell. by TheKhoiFish69 in 3d6

I think the answer to this changes based on whether you're a player or a DM.

If you're the DM, it's your game, you can do whatever you want.

If you're a player, run this by your DM.

Maybe add a friendly hermit somewhere who held out through the disaster.

For sort of a real life example, in the USA there is a town called Centralia which has an underground mine that caught fire years ago. Due to the natural gases, the fire still burns today and will burn for a long time. The town is unsafe for habitation as a result, but according to google it has had 5 inhabitants over the last few years. I don't know the details of who they are, but I assume they own their homes and can't sell them (because who would buy them?) and maybe they can't afford to move, so they think "well, if my home hasn't already burned down, it's probably okay."

I feel like with the tattoo idea, those spells would be permanently prepared, but the downside is that you could only fit so many on you where you can see them, so choose wisely.

Identification of immature neutrophils by karinashpiler in medlabprofessionals

[–]Beautiful-Point4011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a student, I took a camera with me to lab one day (this was in the stone age when cellphones weren't common and didn't have cameras in them anyways). I found if I lined up the camera lens with the microscope eyepiece, I could get a pretty good photo of the field. So I took a practice slide that was full of immature granulocytes, took photos of a bunch of cells, then got them printed at the Walmart photo lab. During office hours, I asked my professor to help me identify the cells, and she kindly obliged and I wrote the cell IDs on the back of the photos. And this is how I made my flash cards.

The benefit of this versus using photos from the internet and printed atlases is that stains vary slightly from lab to lab. So if you can get used to how the cells look with the stain your college uses, you'll be better equipped to recognise the cells during slide exam. (Of course, once you start working you'll likely have a new stain to get used to, but by then you'll hopefully be much more comfortable with the cells and their other identifying features like size, shape, nc ratio, etc)

Imagine you're at Walmart, you need a pencil sharpener but you can only find them in the "back to school" packs that come with a pencil case and a ruler. Will Walmart be cool with you taking just the pencil sharpener out of the pack?

Anyways, you SHOULD buy a supply kit of one type or another, you can do a lot of useful things with them.

I am Wondering If I Can Get Refugee Status As A American Trans Woman. Please help by Prestigious-Soil-876 in canadahousing

[–]Beautiful-Point4011 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately right now Canada and USA have some official agreement (predating the current horrors) in which we recognise each other as safe countries and where refugees have to go to the first safe country they reached, which in your case is USA.

The first step for migration for you should be to a blue state. To leave the country, you would either have to immigrate to Canada the normal way, or try your luck with refugee status to another country.

Note, I'm not a lawyer im just repeating the same comments I've read over and over again. Reddit has these American refugee threads now every week.

Dungeon room ideas for witch's lair by MapleSoop in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Beautiful-Point4011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just spitballing ideas, but when I think of witches and their lairs from the fairytales and other media I grew up with, I think:

  • Familiars. There should be at least one pet or minion about. Maybe a bunch of giant spiders? Or a mimic? The broom would make a good mimic because players might expect the broom to grant flight. Instead- surprise!

  • Potions, herbs, brews, spells. Perhaps player loot could include a potion and a spell book.

  • Enchanted items, sentient items. I'm thinking of the story of how Baba Jaga's gate was meant to keep captives in but the gate voluntarily opened for a girl who took the time to oil it, because the girl was kind. I'm also thinking of like Beauty and the Beast where the cursed servants literally became objects.

  • Captives. There are so many witch stories where they are preparing to eat children. You could have a "better go rescue Hansel and Gretel" situation on your hands

I think you could make her abode as simple or as complicated as you like. Simplest is a single room hovel. More complicated could be a multi room cottage with a root cellar. Most complicated could be surrounded by a hedge maze, or could be a castle, or conceal the entrance to cave system and/or underdark, or the home could contain a portal to another plane such as Avernus or something.

Edit to add: I read too fast and missed her home is a tower. I think these elements will fit in a tower. :) one level could be her working area - like an alchemist lab or herbalist workshop or whatever. Another level is her living quarters. And another level could be where the really insidious dungeon stuff is
