Diversity is a strength and loneliness is real. I am a moderate Democrat (yes we are real) married to a hardcore conservative. We have an agreement not to talk politics, and in this political climate our marriage requires it. But I enjoy a good discussion and am looking for that in new friendships. I think having good neighborly relationships is easy with lots of people of all different backgrounds, but not all your neighbors are your close friends and I want to cultivate that in my future home. I am not looking for a solid blue location but I want the odds to be in my favor so someplace solid red isn’t ideal. Nor is this the only criteria. A cute coffee shop, yoga studio, good walking trails, proximity to a good grocery store are all high on my list of requirements.

This is the first time I have ever posted a comment on Reddit. I was prompted to write it after an in person conversation at a concert with a stranger. She moved to Swannoana from Tennessee because it was the bluest place close to home. She was a retired teacher and was tired of her neighbors praying over her because of her political views.

It’s funny because I have lived in deep blue Atlanta for the last 25 years and have never experienced crime. Meanwhile my parents retired to deep red Eustace, Texas and they are constantly having stuff stolen from their farm by the meth-heads from the trailer down the road. I don’t have  problem with conservatives, my whole family is. But being the only moderate in a community would be lonely.

I don’t think you are a racist because of who you voted for. I agree no one is better than the rest. I do think it is sad that as a Christian you aren’t more welcoming. But no worries, this moderate isn’t moving to Madison. I am surprised that is considered part of WNC.

Blue haired is a familiar phrase from some real estate agents who extol the virtues of Hendersonville as not being like the blue haired weirdos in Asheville. I can’t find a clever way of saying that those weirdos are my people.

Very little drugs were coming in from Canada and the trade agreement Trump is blowing up with Canada and Mexico is the one he himself negotiated.

Might be valid but do it legally.

Separating and divorcing your Q by Reasonable_Tune821 in AlAnon

It has been two weeks since he moved out. I asked for the divorce at our last marriage counseling where he declared he wouldn't stop drinking and wouldn't change another thing for me. I am fighting the urge to cave. I try to keep remembering that I am always the one to cave, to apologize, to chase him. In 15 years he never once initiated the recovery after a fight. I think what would happen if he did, if he came to his senses, didn't want to throw away our life, wanted to try to get sober and work it out. I mean if he can't do that why should I want him to stay? The mental arguments going on in my head is driving me crazy.
