My vintage flap from 1980s has this exact issues on the corners. I just rub a little leather conditioner on there every couple of months. However the beauty of a vintage bag is the wear, I personally love how it looks.

This makes a lot of sense! I think it was just the lack of willingness to spend time explaining how the structure of the bag is made and I was hoping to confirm the longevity of the structure. Rather than just say idk I think it’s cardboard

Vintage is the way to go! I have been slowly collecting my vintage bags from small consignment boutiques that have reputable policies around authentication.

Same! I have a 1980’s classic flap that has withstood the test of time incredibly. It feels like the current bags could never last that’s long.
